I don't think techno is a form of music in any sense really and should only be listened to in the event of having popped some "X" and are wearing hundreds upon hundreds of glowsticks plastered onto your body.
Go with all forms of rock, except that screamo-Atreyu/Trivium shit. I'll give Trivium the benefit of the doubt in this in that the vocalist hasn't had time to mature his voice like that of Howard from Killswitch, or Randy from Lamb of God. But they're still pretty much a glorified cover band.
I would advise you to check out FLAW, and Sevendust(Look for their CD "Next"), those two, along with Lamb of God, and of course the Red Hot Chilli Peppers cover almost all genres of Rock. You have, in this order: Hard Rock/Metal/Heavy Metal, Sevendust is Groove Metal, Lamb of God is Thrash Metal, and RHCP are Alternative/Funk Rock. This might sound biased, but I was raised on Rock. And I have looked and delved into all music genres. Some of the Japanese and American Rock/Jazz fusions are also really good. But thusfar, I've found rock to have the best lyrics as they vary and don't rely on certain, alternating themes like Rap and country. And rock has the best musicians on the planet. The fastest bassist on the planet is Mudvayne's bassist (I don't know his name.) The most talented and the one with the most extensive history in the music business is of course the Chilli Pepper's one and only Flea. He's a bad man. Chris from FLAW (Now Five.Bolt.Main) has a phenomenal voice one of the best I've ever heard for vocals and metaling. I'm a rock fan boy though. I'll post you some stuff to listen to.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=...FLAW&hl=en (FLAW's "Whole") This is a excellent song, but not their best from that CD, Through the Eyes is overall their best CD.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=...dust&hl=en (Sevendust's "Ugly") This too I find to be Sevendust's best stuff, this is off the Next CD and is a damn good song.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=...+God&hl=en (Lamb of God's "Laid to Rest") This is one of the better songs of their CD Ashes of the Wake. This is a live version of the song and as you will see it sounds DAMN GOOD. Ignore the Indian sounding music at the beginning, that has nothing to do with the song, it's just part of the DVD that video is taken from.
Crystal Method isn't really techno, they used to be more rock centered in the early 90's. But still, some of their shit is damn good. Though I do find they've gone down hill, probably as they've shifted styles.
