sega does not host it, they pay a company to maintain the servers, low pop = low income, wich means the maintenance costs more then they get.......
not to mention
Quote:PSOBB is not making any money, in fact Phantasy Star Universe is the only reason it has been going as long as it has. Even with the lack of updates (no development, localization, or management costs), the server and bandwidth costs exceed the amount of money generated by paying subscribers.

2. Persistent billing issues and server timeouts (error 906, etc) cannot be resolved by our billing server team. We've been working on them for months and they simply cannot be resolved, I would go into more detail, but the end result will always be the same.

As a company offering a subscription-based service, we cannot charge people for a broken service, and we can't offer a free service without offsetting the cost. The sad result is a closure of the game.
i have read somewhere that all people who have paid to play psoBB at any time, they can play it free for a month o.o

with more exp and drop rates modifications
This is sad news indeed. PSO's still my favourite video game, and I really hope that the day I return (I definitely will someday, just not right now), the private server/s and the PSO community will still be around. :'(
the GC people should be around in a years time still, just very few of them (chances are i won't, because at the rate that i am going off PSOGC i wont be around, but just got to lv160 and having fun again, so you never knew)
i'll most likely be around in a years time. trust me you'f either have to destroy my xbox or kill me to make me stop playing the game. however I will only play on sunday during the christian holiday of lent. i'm giving up all types of virtual reality except for tv.

dont worry, GC people like me will always be around
we will stalk and lurk our way in no matter what =3
What sad news Sad
Hey guys,

Havent been around for a while, some crazy stuff went down, and i couldnt get near a computer.

The news is horrible, but truly inevitable.

I love PSO its my favorite game. Universe's expansion better be worth buying, or i will lose whatever hope i still had for sega.

I still need my BBA so i can play online with my FOmar

^total beast
Yeah, guess what?

Oblivion rules.

So does Assassin's Creed.

Sega sucks.

Get over it.

I played Universe the single player, and that was decent enough, enough to get the 1200 gamerpoints out of it.

I played the downloadable free one, but all that was going on there was a bunch of spam. I spent most of the time asking if anyone was from here to play wif meh.
Didn't go so hot.

When I get my laptop, I might try to lo-hawk my setup and get on Live, if you all still play PSU it might be worth it.
