I just heard about the new Akira movie that's coming out in 2009. It's setting is in Manhattan, NewYork and Leonardo DeCaprio is rumored to be playing as Kaneda.

I hope they don't ruin this anime masterpiece.
It has DiCaprio in it - it's already ruined.
Oh goddamn it...

Heard about the DBZ live action movie too?
Wonder how they're gonna pull these films off...
I reiterate myself. They're ruined. No anime to live-action will ever work, as most anime is so unbelievably crazily-made, it cannot be recreated in reality, unless you watch it whilst on heroin.

what's the akira movie about?
It's set after a devastating nuclear war, in a place called Neo-Tokyo. A boy is taken away by military police and experimented on, and becomes Akira. He has insane psychic powers, and can pretty much destroy anything with a look. That's what I remember, anyway.
lol it going to suck so much.Smile But oh well i'm still going to watch it when it come out.Tongue
They are going to ruin it, but won't ruin the anime for me. So I don't care.

With CG now though, who knows.

**** they may pull it off.

And if takes heroin to do it......Well. It may pull it off even better.

And it wasn't a nuclear war, the original Akira had the same overload that Tetsuo did and that was what caused the explosion you see at the beginning. The Japanese government thought it was a nuclear strike which brought about as a result WWIII.

That's why they continued to experiment and continually tried to resurrect Akira's power, was that way they could have a human weapon with the destructive force of a nuclear weapon. But as the end of the movie showed, no human could handle it, but maybe someday they could not only handle it, but use it responsibly for the betterment of the human race.

Or at least that was my take on it.... Yeah.... <_<
Well at the end of the movie after Tetsuo's power became unstable. The espers with the help of Akira sent Tetsuo into the future to evolve into a state of being that can control his growing power. But that's just my guess on the ending.
