I believe red ring doesn't drop on schthack servers, i say this because the client doesn't have the drop enabled so they use a server drop (similar to olga flow), but unfortunatly they can't make the red ring apear at the correct location, so it basicly get's lost somewhere.
With that, the quest is the only option.
