I have used both a Varista and a Cannon against him. Make sure to use a weapon that you can hit him with while he is in the water. Its very important hit him hard and often. The less number of times the lights go out...the better. Don't worry about special attacks against him. They are a waste of time. He is hard enough to hit with a normal attack without missing on special attacks too. Just hit him as hard and as often as possible. The Varista is perfect to use while he is in front and back of the boat. Use the Cannon while he passes the ship and jumps on the side of the deck. And lastly, continuallly casting Shifta and Deband. There should be no way he can kill you with one attack while those are cast.
