I works, i got the OS to run again.

I took the computer to some of my friends and they finally managed to fix it , took a little over 3 hours to actually do it. Alot was done. We did an over install on the OS, which is to install another 98 se OS on my computer then delete the old version. this wasn't what took forever though. to over install we needed it to read a floppy or CD, The floppys we were using didn't work and nor would the CD's. So we opened it up and tried to get the CDs to read but i wouldn't. So about a hour of this and we finally got it right (it was the master read as slave and slave read as master, and the floppy drive said it was up where the slave should be. They all fixed this and we got the CDs running. So we installed another 98se and then deleted the old one. But i seems that norton, roxio CD creator, and microsoft publisher are some programs not working. Next I plan to burn what i want to save on CD, but i gota reinstall roxio first. Then we will format the drive and install XP on it.

Thanks for your help. And wish me luck
There not working eh. Hm, Goto start menu, then goto run, type in regedit. hit ok. Goto edit when in the regedit program, and goto find. Type in PINF or PINFI. this is a virus that rewrites .exe files only which stops them from working. Now if you do have it when it finds it, on the right colloum if its there, you'll see a file that says PINF or PINFI, right click on it and say delete. Afta this is done reboot the machine, now there are 6 different pinfi viruses out there, sometimes the .exe file will go back to normal. When booted up goto norton and if it fires up start a scan. This should find the .txt, or some other file that belongs with PINFI. Now if norton doesnt work, your going to have to search the net for a program that can delete norton's registry all at once. I've done it manually and it takes forever cause of going thru all of registry and going into the c: drive and looking for files that belongs with norton. Once norton is outta the computer, reinstall it and update it and start its scan.
Darkmatter, thanks for the info but i plan to just burn my personal files onto CD and then just wipe everything on it and install XP on it, So i won't be needing to fix Norton. Nor do I plan to connect it to the net (that's when all the problems started) untill burn my files and wipe everything. But again I'll save what you said on my how-to-fix-computer files. I just hope i can install roxio though, if not ill be needing what you said.
