You can get Photon Booster for 45 pds, I've done it loads of times to make a few snow queens. It just takes about half an hour for it to appear

speekin of photons.. Does anyone know what the Photon Drops do? Ive got about 5!

You trade them in for items in the gallons shop quest.

It's an online only quest, anyway I've only ever met one person who has a maser beam, it's quite rare but not all that good.
