Sonic Youth are indeed very good.
What was the university Scott Bull?
Anyway, some of those solo artists do write their own songs, I just thought it was pretty for you to list a few who don't..
My favourite solo artist at the moment would probably be Bjork. Does she count as underground? She's very big, but not at all mainstream.
i like Finch and Avenged Sevenfold
also, would My Chemical Romance, Alkaline Trio and Funeral For A Friend count?

Truely none of those count as an "underground" music group.
not even Finch or Avenged Sevenfold?
not even them.

i have to agree. that was the one song of theirs i liked. even if the music video is a bit creepy. symbolism... but creepy.
my favorite underground band is actually one dude. He has a contract and all that but he isn't that famous yet. He used to go to my High School. He was a close personal friend of mine. Definately, Zeke Berkely is the best underground musician.
I like...uh....alexisonfire...they are quite good.
Im not sure of any others that count.

Alexisonfire is fabulous. They're actually moving out of underground and becoming more mainstream, I would think.

I remember Armor For Sleep being mentioned waaayyyy earlier in this...
They played a show with Matchbook Romance in my area! And it was a crazy good show supposedly. alas i didnt make it to the show but my friends went and two of them got to go crowd surfing haha.
I'm not really sure if theyre "underground" per se.... but.. you guys should check out With Broken Wings.
