1) Own a Nintendo Gamecube, a T.V., and a copy of the game
2) Plug it all in
3) Insert your game disc into the game tray in your Nintendo Gamecube
4) Turn on your Nintendo Gamecube console (And T.V!)
Any questions?

I think he meant how is it played, you lazy boy!
Fact is I'm lazy too, but whoever wants to lecture him about the phases of the turns in PSO III, be my guest.

Wha'?! A thread in the EP3 section?! Holy crud! This is amazing!
Okay... basic run down of how to play.
Each player has a Story Character (SC), these are the Fomars, and the Ramarls, and Hucaseals, and all those lovable characters from EP1&2. The SC's have alot of HP... that is because when he dies, that player loses. So, the object of the game is to kill the enemy SC.
Arkz (Darkside) SC's can summon monsters from EP1&2 to the field, and move them around and have them attack enemies. Hunters (Heroside) equip items and weapons from the old PSO and use them to attack.
At the start of every turn, you make a Dice Roll. You get an ATK die, and a DEF die.
Then you "Set" either monsters or weapons depending on if you are an Arkz or a Hunter (not like HUmar kind of hunter though, I mean like Heroside kind of Hunter). This takes ATK dice equal to the number of yellow dots on the card. You can only have a total of 8 yellow dots out on your team at any one time.
Then you "Move". Typically, moving one block takes one ATK die.
Then you do your "Action" this is when you attack. Attacking takes one ATK die, but you can combo monters/weapons with other cards (Attack Action Cards) to greatly increase damage, though it also takes more ATK dice to use.
Then the enemy does his "Defense", this is where the DEF roll is used to play Defense Action Cards that will reduce the damage you do.
After all your attacks are done, you "Draw" and it is the opponent's turn.
There's a tutorial that you can do from the main menu if you want to learn more.... or you can read the instruction manual. But that's the gist of it; it's alot different from EP1&2, but it's also alot cooler (though more ignored).

A new thread..? Do my eyes decieve me?
whiteninja covered the most of it - but you'll also notice that almost every card has some ability or other. These are explained on the card itself although thy are not always easy to understand. If you're confused about how one works, then ask us here, whiteninja or I will be happy to explain it.
Ep3 is far more strategic than Ep1&2 - and has more character development. I greatly enjoy it for this. Because of this variant in strategy, you need to put some thought into making a powerful deck to play against a human player. Unfortunately the AI is terrible, and building an acceptable deck with a near equal amount of Item/Monster cards, Attack Action cards and Defense Action cards will allow you to beat most of the decks.
Furthermore - here's a little trick I picked up. The AI will block your first attack if it can, then none of them afterwards. That's why I always attack first with a nice tentative move, then power everything into my subsequent attacks.
I do not understand how the team block works - and it annoys me. Could anyone clear that one up?
Also, in addition to whiteninja's explaination of the Draw step - you can hold up to five cards at once (unless you're using the Assist card 'Rich') and you can discard as many of these as you want at the end of your turn, to draw an identical number. If you draw all cards from your deck, then you'll draw from your discard pile with Default Rules. (You cannot do this if 'Deck Loop' is disabled.)
Hope this helps, mon1670.
EDIT:
Lee, you forgot to mention that you require a memory card. No console version of PSO can be played without one!!!

Every time you are about to win, or they are 1 step away from winning, that happens so that you do 0 damage or they do infinite!
(depending on who's attacking and being attacked) It has never happened to me though (my ally never assists me), it's happened against me alot though. It's also seperate from them playing an "Ally OK" card, because they do that normally.17-10-2005, 10:43 AM
Yeah, that was the thing I was on about. In the manual it says something about being able to use your EX Meter to do something special, so that must be it - but I've no idea how to.
Back to the AI beating though, I tend to use a Claw or Al Rappy to attack first, then a nasty nasty spell from my Chaos Sorcerer... I'm a technique deck kind of guy. (Although I need to add something like a Dark Belra or a Hildebear to get around that frustrating God's Shield Genbu in Scandal 1. Bloody Action Disruptor.)

What an open question
.
Each story character also has their own stats and special abilities (my site in my signature has a list of what they are on the European Offline version, but for more details, go to PSOW :X).
Everyone else have covered everything else I can think of at the moment, so I'll just continue the discussion.
Hehe, COM assist should be officially known now as the "picture plus the stupid phrase".
Assists only work between certain character pairings (e.g. Vivana and Teifu, Relmitos and Sil'fer (those annoyed me the most)). It also only works when you have a COM partner or when both are COM. It is not very common, 'happened to me a only a few times, once when I was attacking Memoru with Viviana and Master Saligun. I'm also not sure to how much the damage is boosted. Is it x2 multiplier? It can't possibly be infinite, although the block they do (when your move otherwise would have been a match-ending move) blocks off ALL damage.
The EX Meter? Doesn't that just gives you dice bonuses or lets you use Ransom card (lose EX instead of HP)?

Yeah, but the manual suggested that something dodgy may happen because of it - and it tells you about the dice boosts so I assumed that it was the Picture Plus The Stupid Phrase (PPTSP). However, the character pairings do seem to work out logically - I notice it most against Lura and Break.

I know the damage they do isn't infinite more, but it's always enough to kill your monster/item/you. Even if it would have only done a few damage and you use a Resist card (+10 HP) you'll still get your butt whooped.
mon1670, are you following any of this? (or even visiting back here?)
