Do you choose characters based on appearance or what they can do?
For that matter, how do you choose your weapons, mags, and other equipment?
I, for one, like to balance it. I look back on my first PSO choices for the answer to that, and it was like this:
Fomar with a Nidra.
I chose Fomar because he's the only respectable looking human. I didn't care that it took a "experienced" player. Ha. And wow was I ever frustrated for a long time.
Even now, I could be hunting a Pan arm's blade for him, but instead I want a Twin Chakram. Why? It looks cooler. What can I say, I'm a chump. If the way my character plays looks cool, I have more fun.
However, the reasonable side of me has also created a RAcast that is catching up with said Fomar quick. I don't care about his appearance. It's like trying to make a cool looking bulldozer. Pointless.
both, my main two chars both look cool and are great to play with (in my eyes at least)
I'm a hunter by heart and this influenced my FOmar quite a bit, i prefer bashing things than using magic, my FOmar does this well along with technique casting, i went and hunted him a morning glory as the FOmar claw combo looks great (slow though)
i also try for some originality too, on BB i'm the only one i've ever seen using the bright yellow FOmar costume, i use a red one currently due to xmas but i'll be changing back after.
Appearance is crucial, it's a must have. If you play only for superiority in stats and bonus', you're going to get bored very quickly >_> ...
Don't get me wrong, I look at stats... but I prefer how my character looks. What angers me is how most of the common rare weapons you find can look sooo cool... but aren't statistically all that great... <_< ... For example... DB's Saber, Flowen's Sword, Wals MK2, Brave Hammer, Battle Verge, Kaldabolg, Durandal, Brionic, Gae Bolg, etc... >_>
iv always been a force person. always been from the start till now FOnewerl. iv givein her the black costume with skirt shorts i think coz she looks gr8 in it lol. but i also use her coz IMO shes the best character.
when it comes to mag i need the best lookin 1. thats y i forced myself to train up another mag so that it would become a sato with the perfect status for me
as for weapons im not to fussy bout apearence. i always carry 3 weapons with me. they used to b club of laconium,mace of adaman and club of zamurian all for the reason i equip the weapon of the techneque i use most. as for now i moved on to changing the club of laconium for hildbears cane as it powers up defence aswell (which i need).
in the future im hoping i can get the hildblues cane and the sigh of god. i want them badly but not lookin so gd so far
Finally someone who realizes that the 3 basic rare clubs are actually the best Simple Tech boosting weapons in the game >_> But you might also want to get the 3 basic rare wands, seeing they boost all the techniques in their elemental class by 20% >_> Just because you're FOnewearl and have a Simple Class bonus, doesn't mean you can't nuke :p, infact, you Nuke with Ra-techs 2nd best... mostly because you have higher MST than anyone... (FOnewm still over nukes you!
) But... FOnewm is probably the least supportive force there is (unless you use support/healing merges). Every other force gets a boost in either 2x S/D Range, Resta/Anti Range, or in FOmarl's case... S/D and Resta/Anti :p
p.s., the Club of Laconium boosts foie by 40%... where as Hildebear's Cane boosts foie by 30%... Yet Hildebear's Cane casts free Foie... which is great... But for Dark Falz I always bring Club of Laconium and Foie Merge... a 70% foie boost? Hell yeah
for my characters, i choose the best one, and the one that i think would suit me best. i cant really play with a bad looking character, so if im not getting anywhere with one then ill change the costume until i want to play with them alot. for example: jarlly, my first char, RAmar. i think he has the best costume, once i tried to change it but decided i had the coolest one anyway.
my RAcast: really wasnt playing with him much. he wasnt very far in the game, and i couldnt be bothered to play as him. changed costume, now im playing as him all the time.
my HUnewearl (old): deleted her after she got o lvl 15 and stayed there. my RAmarl may go a similar route, so need to change her costume.
weapons: this is the order of preference: boosts, spec. attk, looks. eg: i will choose ass kicky powerful weapon with no special (eg: yasminkoc 3000r im currently hunting) over much else because it is immensley powerful and looks dude.
for my racast, i use a gush laser wqith 55% hit over most other things because of the special BUT ive recently started using a ruby bullet because of the speed and coolness and power. if something has 2 things, then itll probably get used (like frozen shooter).
mags- i choose the specials i want from my mags, then get the best from that selection.
The appearance and they level up pattern and there special abbilities they get like the fo's get boost on some spells.

You forget she already gets a 30% boost, it's actually a 100% boost to foie.
By the way, FOney will out n00k a Fonewm any day.
Why: Because she can out cast him, the only way he'll be more powerful is with merges/and the wands. But due to his design he techs faster barehanded. Thus, if he wants to keep up with the FOney with casting speed, then he has to wear no tech boosting wepons which means he's weaker than her. And if he does wear tech boosting wepons, then shes faster. The FOnewearl is superior to her male newman counter part. Plain and simple.
As for me, it's a mix between looks and power. My HUnewearl has a red Rukmin as her mag, why? Because hardly anyone uses a Rukmin, in a world of Rati and Sato, Rukmin is a breath of fresh air, and he looks good when paired with her costume/hair color/ and wepons (Usually a Red Sword and some other wepons.)
I get the looks, but I make sure it goes with the power.
My Fonewearl had the Red Merge (not Resta!), Brightness Circle (will use Aura Field later on...), and gray Nidra as the visible gear. Then I have all the tech bases covered with Summit Moon, Sorcerer's Cane, Psycho Wand, and Caduceus.... except S/D... but I do have a 20% hit Branch of Pakupaku... just need to use it...
My Ramarl has the Secure Feet which look neat (I want Rico's Earrings), Sacred Cloth (not strong, but I like the Paralysis block), and a turquoise Sato that matches her hat's color perfectly. Then for weapons, she has the entire Yasminkov set (definitely strong + cool at the same time), Frozen Shooter, Spread Needle, and my Gi Gue Bazooka 90/30/0/60.
Well, for my Humar, my coolest and strongest character that absolutely pwns both my Fonewearl and Ramarl... I'm too lazy to keep typing, and I posted the pictures of him her, so look if you aren't as lazy as me.

I said I carry Foie merge and Club of Laconium, so I have a 70% foie boost (fonewm)
FOnewearl does not out-nuke FOnewm, FOnewm gets a 30% boost in Gifoie, Gizonde, Gibarta, Rafoie, Razonde and Rabarta... Though FOnewearl gets +250 more MST than FOnewm in total MST, she does not exceed FOnewm in those specific techniques. All classes tech faster barehanded... If FOnewm wears merges, it would be over FOnewearl with merges because of his class bonus in the 1st place. They would not make FOnewearl have all the technique advantages... She already gets double s/d/r/a range, Megid penetration, simple class and megid bonus... FOmarl... the force with the lowest MST, does alot more Grants damage than FOnewearl... Use a technique damage calculator.
