Nirvana are grunge, so it is kinda the same, although they are more rock, than metal

And no, they are not punk, he forces me to listen to it (and I enjoy it so I don't quite know why he forces me!) and I do not think they are punk. You want punk, you go listen to Green Day or Blink-182.
