  Nintendo DS and the world!
Posted by: Lee-yoshi - 06-05-2004, 06:01 PM - Forum: Gaming - No Replies

Following the short anouncement of the first Nintendo DS game, comes a official press release from Nintendo themselves stating how the future handheld has attracted the world! Over 100 different developers already have development kits to start work on games for the Nintendo DS including:

  • THQ - WWE Wrestling Series
  • Electronic Arts - Recent James Bond/Lord of the Rings/Harry Potter, etc.
  • Activision - Spiderman Series
  • Atari - Driv3r
  • Ubisoft - Splinter Cell/XIII/Harvest Moon
  • Majesco - Recent Bomberman
  • Capcom - Resident Evil/Street Fighter/Megaman Series
  • Sega - Sonic the Hedgehog/Phantasy Star Online/Super Monkey Ball
  • Konami - Metal Gear Solid
  • Hudson Soft - Mario Party
  • Namco - Tekken/Soul Caliber/Time Crisis
  • Koei - Dynasty Warriors/Mystic Heroes
  • Square Enix - Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts

Note the games in italic don't mean they're coming out for the DS, just what you may know the company from.

Here's a selection of cheesy quotes Nintendo have added in the release, for obvious reasons!

Yves Blehaut (Senior Vice President of Atari) Wrote:"Nintendo DS is going to push hand-held technology to uncharted territories. It's going to energize both developers and consumers with amazing new game mechanics and new game design. Once more, Nintendo leads the way with something unexpected and totally innovative."

Nick Earl (Vice President & General Manaager of Electronic Arts)' Wrote:"The Nintendo dual screen is something that we're really excited about developing for. It's very innovative, which is classic Nintendo."

No doubt the Nintendo DS will secure Nintendo's dominance of the HandHeld console market even after the release of the Sony PSP, both due for a sneak preview at E3 this year (Next Tuesday infact!). This is obviously helped along by Ninty's incredibly popular GameBoy systems which have in total sold over 168 Million units across the 15 years GameBoy's of all different kinds have been out!

I think my Mag is broke. o_O
Posted by: Fygee - 06-05-2004, 12:26 PM - Forum: Help - Replies (4)

I've been raising a Mag for one of my other characters to use as I maxed my current one, and the oddest thing happened. I've gotten it up to level 108 so far, and it did the usual 3 evolutions, however it only gained two photon attacks. Is this a bug, or is it possible to get a gimped Mag that never gains the third attack?

Do rares drop more often in online than offline?
Posted by: Fygee - 06-05-2004, 03:32 AM - Forum: Items - Replies (4)

Seems that way, at least to me. I have a lvl 57 Skyly HUmar who recently beat Very Hard (Ultimate is impossible so I guess I'm going to have to do VH Ruins runs until I puke before I can tackle it) and I've gotten very few special weapons drops. In about 3 weeks time I've gotten a few Flowens Swords, one DB swords, a few Last Survivors, and two Dragon Slayers. Drops were relatively decent going through VH, until this week when I beat it. Now I'm getting almost no rare drops at all (got one more Last Survivor in one week's time) after doing many runs through the VH levels, and its getting to be quite frustrating.

Here's the thing though. My copy of it is one that my friend gave to me after he quit playing a while back. Often times he would play online but solo. I distinctly remember him getting at oodles of rare drops from doing VH runs on his HUmar of similar level. I'd do online myself to see but I lack a broadband adapter for my GC at the moment. Which leads me to wonder, are rare drops more common on online games than offline games? If so, isn't that really unfair?

  Connection Help
Posted by: Ivan - 06-05-2004, 02:51 AM - Forum: Help - Replies (3)

I'm applying for a job, and it pays enough to switch my family's connection from modem, to braodband or a second phoneline.

My question is, which is cheaper, and hows does each method of connection work?

In the first quest, the battle training. You get teamed up with an andoird with a lovely looking parstian type weapon. I've seen on guides, that if you don;t tell Sue your name you can get this weapon.

Umm how?

  PSO Proxy setup guide
Posted by: Hrith - 05-05-2004, 11:28 PM - Forum: Help - Replies (23)

I dunno if I qualify for this, but I do use it, and Junon asked me to help.

1) you need a BBA, which can be ordered at lik-sang.com for instance, and a crossover RJ45 cable (some people sell them at rip-off prices, beware).

2) I need to know if you are using ICS or a hub, etc.

for ICS (internet connection sharing):
-for windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME
Open the Start menu, select "Run" and type "winipcfg" select the adapter (ethernet card) that goes to the NGC, and you should see its Physical address, IP address, Subnet mask and default gateway (or router, same thing), note down the last three.

-for windows 2000, XP
Open the Start menu, select "Run" and type "cmd" a DOS window opens, type "ipconfig/all". A list of various things will be displayed, find your network card info there, and note down the IP address and subnet mask.

3) Go to Control Panel --> Network Connections, select your network card that goes to the GC and click "properties", select "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" and click "properties" again now enter the IP address and subnet mask you got earlier (gateway is not necessary) and press "ok" until you're out.

4) Go to your Gamecube Network options, do not change your online access settings (PHCP, IP address, DNS, etc.), but on the last page you will be prompted to enter a Proxy server and a Proxy port number.
The Proxy server is the same IP address you got earlier, just re-type it in your GC this time, the port number is 8080 by default, it is unlikely it will change, so use 8080.

5) download PSO Proxy (I'll tell you where if you don't know, it's freeware, anyway, I can post it).

6) Launch PSO Proxy and type 8080 in port number (should be by default), now click "start" (on PSO Proxy, not the Start menu) if "start" and the port number are greyed out, it means it works (if not, I'll answer individually).

7) Go back to PSO, select "Homepage" and then press "A", PSO Proxy should take up, upload your pics. There is a default folder, you can change it.

8) -- optional -- to change the sharpness of pictures set the gamma and sharpness to:
gamma=1.200000
sharpness=0

To make those changes, go to the 'proxy.ini' file that comes with PSO Proxy, click its properties and uncheck the "read-only" attribute. Now you can open it (it opens with Notepad) and do the changes.

Note that settings will give a different result if you are using PAL or NTSC version of the game, and I use PAL

It looks okay to me...

If you are using hub, router, etc. I think it's the same, but let me know if anything does not work, that's the point of the topic, too.
