I know that people can FSOD you on purpose on the US version of PSO.
Maybe they are just FSODing you during a save. Obviously if you are offline, this is not problem. Maybe just something to consider.

your disc is scratched, or your gcn is broke, i would call or e-mail nintendo and ask to exchange your disk for a new one. you can corrupt but that is worse luck then i can understand.
