keep a launcher out for show and if its not needed in the room there is plenty of time to simply switch to the long-range rifle

no way, rifles. Launchers do more damage but rifles have way better range, and if there was a way then im sure PSO would incorporate being able to hit vitals way better with a rifle then a launcher, blow off their arm with a slow weapon and have to wait to shoot again, or take out their head in one shot and move to the next target(victim:evil: ) thats how its done!
