I saw the movie last night. Youre right, its way better than the first one, i really enjoyed it. Are they making a third film?

Resedient Evil: Apoclypse - UK Jester - 19-10-2004

Angry I really enjoyed the first movie even though it wasn't really tied to the games story lines. The film was pure popcorn fun best enjoyed if you leave your brain at the door (or in another room if watching it on Video/VHS).

I've enjoyed a few movies by Paul W S Anderson and am looking forward to Alien vs Predator... BUT!

Do any of you remember Terminator 3. John Mostow was the man in charge, filling the void of James Cameron. John was a huge fan of the first two films, then made T3 and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that being a fan of a film series should count against you when it comes to taking over the reins.

Paul Anderson is, according to the commentary on the R2 DVD of Resident Evil, a huge fan of the games. In his first film he pretty much left the games alone and lifted a little bit here and there from them. In Resident Evil 2 he took the third game as his basis, but I don't ever remember the Nemisis turning good and fighting the Umbrella Corporation. That scene was an utter joke, as was the scene before hand when Alice and the Nemisis go hand to hand to determine who is the best T-Virus creation: the Nemisis ends up looking like the boxing monster from Challenge TV's Takeshi's Castle. And talking of villians, Nicholai was a real nasty piece of work in Resi 3, a murdering bastard with brains on his brains and a limp of black ice where his heart should have been. In the novelisation of Resi 3 he is even more vile: a real villian instead of a genetically created monster. How does Paul Anderson treat him? Meet Nicholai, he's a nice foreign guy, good friends with Carlos and is prepared to sacrifice his life to help his friends and those he has to protect. The film Nicholai ends up as out of date Pedigree Chum about half way through the movie: perhaps Paul Anderson should go join him for his piss poor choices. Finally the ending of the film was far to long and bloated. Instead of the rescue of Alice by Carlos, Jill and a young girl(!) in an Umbrella Corps military base (with an "..but we wanted you to rescue her...AH HA HA HA HA HAAAAAH..." bit added on for the sequel), the film should have ended with the Umbrella Corps recovering Alice and preparing her as their next big bad.

Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the movie on a purely popcorn basis, but I hate it when someone takes a book or a game and really messes up the characters. The Nemisis being a good guy is about as right as Supermans Lois Lane being a Prostitute the Clark Kent visits and falls in love with, Nicholi being a run of the mill good guy about as right as Spidermans alterego being an black bloke oozing with confidence who works for Eminem during his tours!
