Dark Desires - A fanfiction by Pink - pink - 18-10-2006 Well, the mid-term didn't go so well... at all... so I decided to clear my head with some writing, which turned into a lot of writing, which turned into the completion of chapter 6... so... enjoy! ![]() ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 6 – Survival of the Fittest Pink watched with a vicious glare as the male robot put away his weapon and went to pick up his fallen friend. “We’re leaving Pink, just remember we only tried to help.” the robot said, sounding quite annoyed. Damn these creatures trying to help me. They’d betray me and do what they want with me. If one group of them is out to try and capture me, why can’t another one be doing the same? Their actions certainly seemed like they intended to capture me. Pink continued to watch as the three creatures went into the trees, disappearing from sight. I think I can at least believe that there are more of these pests on the way. I’ll have to find a way to get the drop on them. Pink moved over to a thick set of bushes near the very large tree in the clearing, limping a little on her leg that was bitten. Spreading the bushes aside she climbed down into the little hole at the base of the tree, leading into a small underground cavern. If I am required to escape to a safer location, I will have to leave this comfortable home. Pink looked around to her few belongings, the bag of food she had stolen the precious night, a comfortable air mattress and blanket she had stolen off of another human, and a small, broken stool with a pile of rocks in place of its broken leg. It’s not like I have much that needs moving, although deflating and re-inflating that human device is quite a pain. Pink walked over to the stool which was placed by a wall, a small bit of light shone in here from a crack that was large enough for her to watch the clearing outside. She sat down and began sharpening her claws and sword while waiting for any signs of further human intrusion. It was by chance I even came across such a suitable home in the first place… I will not be pleased if I must abandon it because of these humans. Pink snarled just at the thought, angered eyes watching the lines of trees outside. Time passed quite slowly as Pink continued to watch, sparks flying off the tip of the sharpened blade of her Sange. She decided to get a couple of apples to eat while keeping watch, knowing it wouldn’t be much longer now. Sure enough, after another few moments, several humans started emerging from the edge of the trees outside, along with many more of the strange robot creatures. There must have been at least a good hundred of them out there. Hmm… this will likely be a lot more difficult than I intended. The humans and robots quickly surrounded the bodies of their dead companions that were left in the field, looking to be trying to track Pink. I better prepare while I have the chance. Pink moved over to the human device she used from a bed, starting to let all the air out of it while she lightened her pack a bit by sacrificing some food. The commotion outside starting getting a lot louder, it seemed the human and robot creatures were quite agitated by something. After the mattress had been fully deflated, Pink folded it as well as the blanket up and put them into her pack. Now the only question is, should I try to flee, or fight my way through? Judging from the numbers, the smart choices would either to be to wait for them to split up again, or to just sneak away from them. Pink moved back over to the thin crevice to look outside once more. There was a lot of activity outside several groups of the creatures were making large gestures and there was a lot of shouting going on, but Pink did not really know what to make of it. I think I’ll just sneak out of here while they are arguing. She looked away from the scene and made her way outside of her home, keeping herself crouched low to the ground to avoid being seen. She crawled around to the backside of the tree, carefully checking for any signs of human or robot movement on this side of the field before creeping into the trees and making her way away from them all. ****** “…and there she goes…” Cranberry watched, seeing Pink make her way around the large tree and out of sight, “I wonder where that pack of hers came from…” “I don’t think it’s something we really need to worry about. I’m more concerned about how long it’s going to take the rest of the hunters to actually trace her down.” Striker stated with a sarcastic grin when mentioning the other hunters. Raiden laughed softly and looked at the other hunters, “If they don’t stop arguing she’ll be a day’s run away from them before they find out where she went.” “Let’s sneak over to the other side of the trees so we can be at least one step ahead of the other hunters. It’ll make it easier to intercept Pink before they catch her.” Cranberry suggested matter-of-factly. “Someone will probably catch a glimpse of us, but… the fools could use something to take their brains off of their tongues for awhile anyways.” Striker added, laughing a bit himself now. The three of them began to sneak along the edge of the trees, keeping low so the only thing the other hunters would catch is a small glimpse of them. Sure enough, after getting most of the way around, one of the hunters pointed towards the forest and the arguing began to stop. Once the party was all the way to the side where Pink had gone, they watched the hunters again. The hunters began to start making their way closer to the other side of the clearing, starting to try and trace where Pink had gone. Dark Desires - A fanfiction by Pink - pink - 18-10-2006 “We should probably run a bit more to the side of them. We don’t want Pink to see us before she sees the rest of the hunters.” Cranberry said thoughtfully. “Yeah, there’s no need for one of us to get slashed or stabbed again after all.” Striker added, frowning a bit at the reminder. “The three of us will be able to travel a lot faster than such a large group of hunters anyways.” Raiden stated, taking another glance at the hunters. The hunters seemed to have found out which way they were going to run, and it seemed they actually had traced the proper direction. “Guess it’s time for us to get moving.” Cranberry commented, starting to move in the same direction as Pink did at a bit of a jog. Raiden and Striker quickly followed, and after a moment, the sound of the other hunters could be heard following them. “Well, I guess you could say that the hunt is officially on.” Cranberry said, starting to move faster to keep ahead of the other hunters. The party continued to rush further into the woods, making sure to maintain a good lead on the other hunters. ****** Pink’s ears wiggled a bit as she continued walking deeper into the forest, picking up the sound of footsteps behind her. It sure did not take them very long to trace me. If they catch me, they will be fighting in my territory, which puts me at the advantage. Pink didn’t bother to quicken her pace, not wanting to hurt her leg any worse than it was. After several moments Pink stopped, hearing the footsteps getting quite close now. I think it’s time to prepare myself… Pink dug her claws into the nearest tree, climbing up to put her pack safely up high, while preparing her to pounce the enemy from above. She watched where the sound was coming from intently, growling slightly as the footsteps grew continually louder. Much to her surprise, all that came out of the trees after a moment were the three creatures that she had encountered earlier. They came to a stop near her position when the female human spoke up, “I would’ve thought we’d catch up to her by now. We’ve got to find her before the rest of the hunters do or she may be gravely injured and taken in for Vivian’s study.” “True, we’ve got to get her somewhere else. Even if she is strong, fighting so many hunters could really result in trouble.” the male robot replied, looking around the forest as he did so. “I hear the other hunters getting pretty close, we should move on.” the female robot spoke up, looking back the way they had come. The three figures made their way deeper into the woods at a run, trying to avoid what lay behind them. Maybe they are after me for a different reason. I still have no desire for their help, but I do think they’re just barely more trustworthy than the other… ‘hunters’ I guess is what they’re called. Pink looked deep into the trees from where the three creatures had appeared as the sound of many footsteps grew much louder. She could see the other hundred creatures she had been watching. I think I’ll do some damage, and then flee again this time. She kept herself in a position ready to pounce, watching the figures come closer and closer now. Once the creatures came close enough, she leaped over to the next tree and leaped down with her claws out, taking them by surprise as her claws easily sliced through two of the human creatures’ skulls. The death cry of their companions caused the entire group to turn around, immediately readying their weapons against her. Pink snarled at the group of them, pulling out her Sange and leaping aside to take another hunter by surprise. It did not take the hunters long to come up with a strategy, they all started to spread out and take her from every angle with gunners at the back and magic users towards the middle. Pink quickly leaped to another tree as four balls of fire were hurled her way. Jumping and digging her claws into one tree after another she quickly decided on her priority. The magic users are the biggest threat. They can not only cause immense damage to me, but they can also heal their comrades. The melee hunters were quite disoriented at her movements, unable to really do anything without a ranged form of attack. After a moment Pink leapt towards the nearest magic user, digging her right claws into the female human as well as thrusting her blade through the human’s middle and taking a bite into her neck, causing the human to crumple over in a pile of blood. She quickly sheathed her blade and kept moving in a random pattern so the enemy would have extreme difficulty hitting her. Quite suddenly Pink flipped backward, landing and digging her claws into another magic user’s skull, before leaping off of them to let the corpse fall as she swung her claws at yet another magic user, slicing half their neck off which was more than enough to kill it. Quickly she dashed and hopped to another male human magic user. Strangely enough this male had quite an over-sized bottom. She went to slash her claws upward on him, only to have a loud POP sound as her claws pierced his bottom, causing it to seemingly deflate. The hesitation caused by this caused her to get a ball of fire directly in the face, causing her to double over before quickly getting herself to her feet, a lot her fur singed by the flame. It may be just about time to get out of here. Pink had to quickly leap up high to avoid six more fireballs and three bolts of lightning, slashing down the side of another human as she landed. Never underestimate the power of stupid things in large numbers. Pink growled furiously as she continued to run through the horde, taking out three more magic users along the way. I can see a way out, but it’s going to hurt. She dashed towards the edge of the large circle, unsheathing her bloody blade. Pink leaped up over the sword users that tried to block her off and swung her blade to behead two human gunners and one robot gunner in a single swipe, but she took several shots in the process, causing her to land on her face, before stumbling to her feet and beginning to run as fast as she could manage. Annoying humans, feel your lose and leave me be! Continuing to run though the forest, having to dodge many more gunshots, fireballs and bolts of lightning, her body screaming in agony, she forced herself to keep moving, keeping her movements confusing and random. Suddenly she could see the three figures that had approached her back at her home. Looking back she could see that the rest of them were lagging behind far enough that she may be able to sneak away unseen. I just know I’m going to regret this… Pink watched as the figures signalled to follow them. She may not have much wanted to follow them, but to Pink, it was the best way to be able to survive. ****** Dark Desires - A fanfiction by Pink - pink - 18-10-2006 “Awesome! She’s following us!” Cranberry cried out to the others in excitement. “Let’s get her out of here as best we can.” “Just as long as she doesn’t try to attack us again I’m fine with helping her out.” Striker stated, running quite hard to keep ahead of the on-going charge. “The forest is quite a maze here; we should be able to lose them. If there’s a river nearby we can also get past their forms of tracing.” Raiden exclaimed, looking back at Pink. “You’d think someone would’ve brought more than their noses for tracking.” Cranberry laughed a bit, watching Pink get continually closer. After a moment Pink managed to catch up, joining in with the group. “If any of you try anything funny you’ll join my list of victims today.” Pink snarled to the group as she caught up. “Don’t worry we’re not going to harm you at all. Let’s just get you out of here.” Cranberry re-assured Pink, giving her a friendly smile. “Oh, and by the way, look what we got for you!” Raiden said in a friendly tone while showing Pink that they had come across her pack of food. Pink stared in amazement while continuing to run, “How did you get that?! I saw you run by me!” “We heard the commotion behind us and when we saw you we knew to get everything prepared. Raiden…” Striker pointed to Raiden as he was talking, “…spotted your item pack so we decided to fetch it for you. We figured you’d want to keep these supplies.” Striker finished in a confident tone. “Hmm… well, I suppose I can at least say thanks.” Pink grumbled reluctantly. “Look!” Raiden shouted, pointing to a wide stream up ahead, “Lets go through there and run upstream through it a bit. We’ll likely be able to shake them off.” Everyone nodded and followed the instructions, running to the stream and making their way upstream a fair distance before stepping out and heading into the thinner woods on the other side. “This is ‘Alganclin Woods’, it’s a rather peaceful place and there should be some more actual wildlife here. You humans seemed to have drained all the wildlife away from my original home. There is next to nothing left there and I was growing quite tired of eating berries and fruit I could find there.” Pink exclaimed, snarling at the mention of the lack of other wildlife at her home. “Well I can guarantee you the only bit of that any of us had to do with it were bringing in a total of three creatures. One from each of us, but that’s all.” Cranberry assured Pink, sounding a bit disgruntled from Pink’s statement. “I’ll neglect the many you have each killed as well. They have become so violent now that you humans have arrived that there is guaranteed to be a lot more death and despair between them.” Pink frowned, showing that something was bothering her. “Pink, you know this place right? Where would be a good place that you could live for awhile?” Raiden asked curiously. “There is a sufficient place for a home about two miles north of here. There is plenty of fresh water and I know of a suitable place for shelter there as well.” Pink replied, turning towards the area she was describing. “We’ll continue to escort you there, but if you want us to go we’ll let you go the rest of the way yourself.” Striker offered as he noticed the sounds of the commotion behind them getting quieter and heading in a different direction. Pink’s face remained emotionless, looking to be thinking about the offer. After a moment she nodded to herself and replied, “My body is not in very good shape right now, so I would prefer continuing to have an escort for the time being.” Cranberry smiled from Pink’s decision and answered, “We’ll be happy to escort you the rest of the way there. I’m just happy I could return part of the favour you paid me last night.” “Consider yourself lucky I bothered to help.” Pink replied with a dark glare, “I would not have bothered if that male human had not of performed such an unfair tactic on you. I believe in sneaking up on your opponent, but not on immobilizing them instead of merely getting a quick first strike.” Cranberry gulped nervously at Pink’s answer, “Well I am still thankful nonetheless. If you will let me, I can help heal your numerous wounds a lot faster once we get time to rest.” “My body is more useful to me fit rather than injured, so I’ll allow that.” Pink answered carefully, a hint of suspicion in her voice. “Very well, let’s just try and reach this shelter of yours first.” Cranberry nodded as she took another quick glance at Pink. She is always so untrusting and suspicious of everything. I guess the only person she really trusts is herself. Hopefully I can at least earn some trust from her… but even that will likely be difficult I think. The party continued to move through the rapidly thinning woods, and Cranberry decided to ask out of curiosity, “Even though we are in a different area, I still haven’t seen any wildlife. Is there a reason that there is none here as well?” “It is because the creatures here know better than to try and attack me. You are strangers to them so they will attack you thinking they can easily win. When it comes to me, they don’t consider me worth the effort even if they do win, they’ll take too much damage.” Pink replied with a bone-chilling laugh. “Judging from how I’ve seen you fight… I can see why.” Raiden commented with a nervous expression on her face. After another few moments the party arrived at the destination Pink had described. The trees were few and far between, and there was a lovely little fresh-water stream going through the woods to form a small pond at the base of a high cliff. The shelter Pink had mentioned was a small cave in the side of the cliff. Dark Desires - A fanfiction by Pink - pink - 18-10-2006 “It is not as nice as my original home, but I will tolerate it until my original home is safe to live at again.” Pink stated, slowing to a walk now. “It certainly looks like a comfortable spot to me… but I suppose it’s not quite as appealing when it comes to defending it.” Cranberry added with a bit of concern on her face. Pink made her way into the cave, coming back out after a moment and nodding. “This place will do well enough as a new home. Now then… I believe you said something about being able to help with my wounds?” Pink reminded Cranberry, moving back over to her. “Alright, I’ll need you to take off your various bandages for this to work at its best.” Cranberry explained to Pink. “Okay, I’ll follow your instructions on this one.” Pink replied, wincing slightly as she ripped off the bandages on her leg, taking plenty of fur with them. Cranberry winced just looking at the awful wound on Pink’s leg, wondering how she could still walk on it, “I’ll get to work right away… that looks immensely painful.” “I stopped noticing it a couple hours after I woke up.” Pink replied, stretching her leg a bit. “Okay, I’d like you to lie comfortably on your back and try to relax as best you can. This will probably feel very unusual to you.” Cranberry warned a gentle tone in her voice. Pink stretched out on her back just as instructed, closing her eyes and taking a few deep breathes, “Okay… I’m ready.” Pink kept a close eye on Cranberry’s actions, watching as Cranberry moved to Pink’s side and crouched beside her, taking her head in her hands, “Alright, get ready…” A strange, but violent tingling sensation suddenly shout through Pink, it felt almost like a cold fire had started on her leg, but it only lasted a couple of seconds. Again and again the tingle and flames came, four, five, and six times until Cranberry set Pink’s head back down and nodded. “There, you should feel much better now, and especially after you get some sleep.” Cranberry stated before getting to her feet. Pink got to her feet as well, looking her leg over in wonder as she noticed the wound had fully closed without even leaving a scar, leaving very tender skin where the wound once was, “That technique… it is amazing! My wounds have mostly healed and even some of my burnt fur is growing back swiftly.” Cranberry smiled, pleased by the result, “It is called ‘Resta’. It is used to heal your own wounds, or the wounds of nearby allies. The worse the wound, the more castings it will take to close, and the more awkward it is going to feel when used on your wound.” Pink closed her eyes for a moment thoughtfully, “I… I think I can replicate it… but I believe it is more than just a hand movement… I think you are also doing something with your mind as well. I would require teaching.” “Well, I would be happy to try and teach it to you.” Cranberry replied, giving Pink a friendly smile. “Not today… not today. I think I shall just get something to eat and then get some rest. It has been a very tiring period, even if the evening is only just dawning on us.” Pink answered, shaking her head at the offer. She picked up her item pack that Raiden had set down and moved towards the cave, turning at the entrance, “Today… you’ve earned this much. I will not attack you on sight, and you may visit me if you wish, just if you bring anybody else they must be escorted by one of you, and if any of you, even one of your guests, betrays me I shall come after all of you. Is this understood?” Cranberry, Striker, and Black Raiden all nodded all paying close attention to Pink now. “This means we can visit you whenever we like right?” Cranberry asked with a hint of eagerness. “You may… I would like to learn more about you humans. It seems that humans will inevitably be my enemy for the most part, and it is easier to deal with an enemy if you know more about that enemy.” Pink exclaimed, growling slightly. “I wish things didn’t have to be like this… but I will be willing to teach you what you like.” Raiden spoke up, frowning a bit knowing that Pink was pretty well correct. Striker and Cranberry nodded as well, agreeing to Raiden’s offer. “Okay, I would like to be alone now. I suppose I will see you three another time.” Pink stated, looking to each of them in turn. “Very well... I’ll see you later… Pink…” Cranberry finished, the party turning to leave Pink to herself, walking towards the setting sun in the distance. ****** Pink woke later during the night to the sound of thunder; a significant storm had started in the sky. Rubbing her eyes sleepily, she walked outside to lean against the entrance to the cave, watching the rain splash against the ground and the brilliant flashes of light in the sky. Life alone is very simple thing. Survival is all you really need to think about. Those three… they may complicate my life a bit, but that is inevitable with all these humans tainting my home world. Pink looked up into the sky, losing herself in the swirls of dark clouds billowing above her. A species like no other, an exception in any situation, vicious, unpredictable, and careful… this is how I am… but that may finally change sometime soon. Pink turned to go back into the cave, yawning sleepily before curling up onto the human device under her blanket. No one’s ever seemed to care about me before. Who would’ve known that saving that human’s life would’ve made such a difference in my life. I’m not sure what is going to become of it, but I’m sure I will find out soon enough. After a few moments Pink settled into a deep sleep, waiting for the dawn of the new day. Chapter End Chapter 7 Teaser: The hunt has failed, but the rescue mission has succeeded. Cranberry, Striker and Black Raiden are both working for, and working against Vivian. They seem to have managed to form a fragile relationship with Pink, but what will become of all this? How will Vivian react to the failure of the hunt? Only time will tell. Eventually all the questions will be answered. Dark Desires - A fanfiction by Pink - Mirinee - 19-10-2006 Yeah, you can only trust yourself, as we agreed yesterday, XD and you can't tell the difference between Humans and Newmans .You survived easily against a mob of hunters, and I can see why, since it took six Restas to heal your leg. You must have thousands of HP! Megid proof too? XD *Jellen!* p.s. Don't forget to show Black Raiden and Striker your fanfic. I'm sure they'll be so happy to read about your and Cranberry's parties adventures. Dark Desires - A fanfiction by Pink - pink - 19-10-2006 Raiden actually quite dilligently reads it... Striker keeps forgetting... ![]() Also... try to think of the story at a slightly more realistic approach during battles. Resta not being the cure-all it is in the game, and certain things like Megid and such not able to be cast left and right whenever someone wants to. It just wouldn't be fun to write using the game's physics.
