ALSO: Requesting permission to post a link on how to dupe backups, and a place to upload MR DNS as a permanent download place - Being looked into

Connection Guide for Schthack's Free PSO Server

This server is entirely FREE.
It is entirely INDEPENDENT of Sonic Team.
You DO NOT NEED to have a Hunter's Liscense to use it.
You WILL need a BroadBand Adapter or Dial Up Adapter for your Cube, depending on your connection type.
This server will NOT go down on April 1, 2007 when Sonic Team's will CLOSE.
For all practical purposes, it is ILLEGAL, but NO ONE CARES. (Except Ryna.)

FSOD is PATCHED on this server; if anyone ever manages to find a FSOD that works, it is patched quickly. However, you may still get a power outage or something while online, so it is best to backup dupe your rares. Using a dupe for anything other than backups IS ILLEGIT, while using one only for backups is only seen as illegit by less than 1% of all players, and they actually are wrong in saying so.

To this end all players if deciding to use this server for online play should ideally check the place out first using a completely different character on a completely different memory card and then decide if you wish to use the servers more with your usual characters as memory card corruption is still possible. There is no greater chance of cheaters in your games than there ever was on Sonic Team's Server.
There is no greater chance of corruption than there ever was on Sonic Team's Server. (Less even, because the double save is removed, and FSOD is over 99.99% patched.)

Method 1: DNS
1. On your computer, go to the Start Menu.
2. Go to Run, and type "cmd" and hit enter.
3. In the command window, type "ping gsproduc.ath.cx"
4. You will get an IP number with 207.134.xxx.xxx
5. On PSO, create an Internet Provider Options file if you have not already.
6. On the "IP Address Auto-Settings" page, set the DNS to "Manual."
7. Enter the IP you got from the ping, and do not forget the periods.
8. Save and quit from all of that, returning to the game.
9. Choose to go online from the main menu.
10. If this is your first time online, you will have to enter the Serial No./Access Key that you got with your PSO disk. It should be either in the box or in the back of the manual. If you cannot find either of these, make up some completely random numbers, but do not register them (see below). You will then have to make up a Password. Save all of this to the memcard.
11. You connect. Enjoy. =)

Method 2: Personal DNS
1. Download MR DNS.
2. Edit the contents of the redirect.txt to say "gsproduc.ath.cx"
3. Run the program, and use the computer's LAN IP as your Cube's DNS.
4. Connect to PSO. You will be connected to MRDNS, then forwarded to SchtServ.
5. You may have to restart the program manually next time you connect. It doesn't always restart on it's own. You will need a router to use this at all, but it will connect you with PSO v1.0, v1.1, PSO+, or EP3.

*** SN/AK Registration ***
When you first get on SchtServ, unless you have registered your SN/AK, all of your characters will have a 4 or 5 digit GuildCardNumber that is based on their name. This means that you may have problems playing online at the same time as some other players, or get other player's mail (eg. Zelda = Lance), and you will have a unique GuildCard for each of your characters (which is not good). To register, mail your SN/AK to [email protected], and do not forget to say please. =)

*** Game Markers and Server Command Notes ***
The following are server commands:
/legit - Marks a game L>. It does not keep illegits out, but it does give you the right to contact a GameMod to have cheaters booted. GameMod's have orange arrows on their heads.
/hack - Marks a game H>. It's a polite way of saying "We cheat in here, if you do not like that, please do not join."
/setpass <password> - It changes the password to whatever is entered. If the game is currently unlocked, it locks it. If nothing is entered ("/setpass") then any password is removed.
/addfriend - Adds someone to your friendlist.
/delfriend - Removes someone from the friendlist.
/friendlist - Displays your list of friends who are online and offline at the time; only usable in the lobby.
/setlvl <#> - Changes the minimum game level to the entered number. If you use it to get into a difficulty early (eg. into Ultimate before lv80, or into VH before 40, etc.) THEN YOU ARE ILLEGIT. PERIOD. That is the official opinion of SchtServ, as well as mine, if your own reasoning is too dull to come to the same conclusion.

- A game marked V2> means you will be playing with PSOPC players. This is very glichty, and seen by some players as illegit due to the games being completely different. If you play in these games, you will FSOD... Alot.
- A game marked L> is meant to be only for legits.
- A game marked H> is for people who cheat or are indifferent.
- As a side note: Players with yellow/orange names are PSOPC players, and sky blue names are PSOBB players.

*** User Content ***
I should atleast mention that there are a few new quests on SchtServ, which were not made by Sonic Team, but by users of SchtServ. Technically speaking, they are illegit, but the official opinion of SchtServ is that they are legit, as it is with 99%+ of the players in most cases, and that is where you will be playing now anyway.

Lost Havoc Vulcan by AleronIves - Someone finally finished that tier of quests. XD

Strange Sightings by Tink - Edited EN1 to include more enemies and one enemy that is always a Hildetorr. The veiws of legitimacy on items from this drop are extremely variant. If you are trading for Torr-Drop items, it is best to state where you got it from, or to ask where the other person got it, just so there is no confusion.

Tyrell's Last Hope by Tink - A really pathetic quest. XD Sorry, but it's true. There's a slop of old ST quests edited and smushed together to give a sort-of-full-EP1 run, the biggest exclusion of which is Vol Opt was removed completely due to many FSODs. At the end of the quest, you receive a Photon Crystal, which after several months of begging from the entire community, finally has a quest made to be spent in. In "Science Project" you can exchange 30 PC's for a "lol legit" Red Ring.

A New Hope by Cryo - A solo-only quest that is jampacked with enemies and prizes including:
- a Photon Drop which is always in the same box
- a GAME MAGAZNE weapon (was released on ST for a short period of time)
- ELANOR mag (banned on ST, never released)
- Parasitic Gene "FLOW" (never released on ST)
- RED RING (never released on ST)
- Lv30 Megid tech disk (Several times more rare than a SJS... Well, it was. Now it isn't. lol?)
- M&A60 Vise 0/0/0/0/50 (80hit or GTFO, n00b. :k )
- Zanba 0/0/0/0/-5 (Older releases may have 0/0/0/0/25.)
If you thought the legitimacy of item from the Strange Sightings Torr were controversial, you have another thing coming. However, the official opinion of SchtServ is that all of these items are legit. Please note thie quest is buggy in certain areas due to the numbers of monsters in it.

Military Strikes Back by Cryo - The multiplayer version of his other quest. It's essentially the same, but has several glitches which may FSOD/kick you from the quest.

Fragments of Memories by Sonic Team - A BlueBurst quest that was converted to PSOGC. It is supposedly good, but has rare occasions of FSOD.

Schthack's Request by Schthack - This is a "laid back version of EN2/Lost:IS." It got a good review from both DelusioN and Nomad, which means something.

Some Christmas Quest by AleronIves - I forget the name, but it's a really hard Mines quest.

Download Quests - You can currently download East Tower, West Tower, Central Dome Fire Swirl, and Seat of the Heart, to my knowledge. Sometimes there is another ship up (Alexandria) which lets you download any of the Sonic Team quests. SchtServ's opinion is that these are all legitimate quests. However, please note that you should NOT play these quests until you have unlocked all the areas. Playing the quests before unlocking the areas (for TTF and RT I am sure, for others I am unsure), will permanently lock those areas and stop your progress in the game.

Olga Flow "drop" - Schthack has given his server the ability to create a Parasitic Gene "FLOW" at certain odds after killing Olga Flow. Olga Flow itself does not drop the item, but it is essentially the same. SchtServ's opinion is that these items are legit.
1/2000 on Normal
1/1000 on Hard
1/300 on Very Hard
1/80 on Ultimate
