Metroid Prime - Lee-yoshi - 08-04-2004

No, this isn't in the wrong forum! Rumours have it that a film based on the Metroid Prime series is set to be made, and directed by....John Woo! Yahoo!

Nintendo Offical Magazine Online Wrote:WOO HOO! HONG KONG JOHN SET FOR METROID MOVIE

The Face/Off, Hard Boiled, and, er, Broken Arrow director grapples with Samus Aran

While chancers like Paul Anderson and Simon West churn out dreary videogame movie adaptations like Resident Evil and Tomb Raider, it seems there's a good chance that a cinematic version of Metroid could be directed by the hugely respected (even if he's let himself go a bit lately) action director John Woo. To which we can only say: blimey.
According to the Reuters news agency, Woo has optioned rights to make a film based on the ever popular Nintendo licence, and is set to produce and possibly direct the movie. Apparently the goal is for a first film to appear in 2006, with the possibility of sequels to come later.

"We are very fortunate that there is such an extensive amount of material to draw upon for the film due to there being so many iterations of the game over the years," Woo said, adding "this type of story has a proven track record of success with film audiences."

This is the second time a movie based on Metroid has been mooted, with producers Warren Zide and Craig Perry optioning the film rights for in January 2003, then letting them expire, giving studio Tiger Hill the opportunity to step in.

Woo is no stranger to the world of videogames; the action-loving director is already working with Sega and the aforementioned Tiger Hill Studios on three other game projects, the first of which is set to arrive in 2005.

*tears of joy* My whole life has been leading up to a Metroid movie. And by John Woo, too. How perfect.

Um...maybe Metroid Prime??? Tongue

I'm sosry to say that unless something miraculous happens, the film won't go any further (unless it already has), or will be a flop.

Let's face it, computer games into movies suck. They are only for the geeks or hardcore fans of a series. Tomb Raider was the only commercial success because it had two big assets advertising it =/. They could do the same with Samus but it won't be the same I think.

Yes it's all nice on paper, but unless Nintendo do something amazing with advertising the movie (given Nintendo's part record not likely), then the movie might not get the people it deserves or wants.

And Ivan, I think he means storyline from the different games -.-;

It's true how Video Games Movies suck, they really do, it's just so cheesy! Resident Evil was more funny then scary, and that's why i'm eagerly awaiting the sequel which is being released this year sometime!

Metroid Prime has got the goings for a change in direction, but we can only hope John Woo gets his finger out, and really pushes it...along with Nintendo like decs said, which isn't hugely likely...apart from in Japan!

I know that's what he meant.

I don't care how crappy the movie will do in the box office, I just want it to be made! Although I'd prefer if it were live action or really advanced CG like The Last Flight of the Osiris (from The Animatrix) or Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (I know the FF movie sucked, but the graphics ruled).
