It's the third game in the series, so it's probably only called Star Ocean because it is part of a series. It's like the Final Fantasy games are only called Final Fantasy because they are all part of the same game series, only the first game had a reason to be called Final Fantasy, but I don't know what it is.

Its probably called star ocean because its kind of set in space and space is an ocean of stars ^_^
Anyway ive got the game, im not too far into it yet (about 15 hours) but its a great game!
