You can't delete characters though... just save over them...

I am guessing he was in transferred data. if he was on the original memory card just press cancell transfer status and he will be at the same level but will have none of his items. if not you will have to start over

Well if he canclled the transfer data his temp character would still be there with all the items. The original would of lost them in the meantime.
