Sorry if this is such a newbie question, but in offline story mode, what does it mean when NPCs say something along the lines of "If you deploy [name of someone] can you deploy me too"? I thought that you could only deploy one person at a time.

When you wander around in the morgue and talk with your members, you will notice that some members are missing.
These missing memebers are on a mission very prolly.

So, by example, if you talk to Kranz and he tells you to deploy him with Kilrya, you can be pretty sure that, at that moment, Kylria is not in the morgue, but rather deployed on a mission.
Thing to do then is check the missions available at that time and use Kranz if you see a mission you have to team up with the COM (as the second char will very prolly be Kylria)

it also meens they have a combo (like if one is about to die the other will save them)

Oh right. But I've only seen one of them take damage for the other when both are com. Do they do it when I'm commanding too?

So. Kranz will help Kylria, Stella will help Glustar, Lura will help Break, Teifu will help Vivianna. Have I missed any? Do they do it whenever they're together, or is it only on certain missions?

I've had a similar problem with Kranz and Ino'lis, on the mission "Sighting 4".

Kranz asks to be deployed there. He's in the Morgue.

Ino'lis asks to be deployed simultaneously. She's also in the Morgue.

However, I go to the Entry Counter, and discover that I can only deploy one character. How, pray tell, is it possible to do this, if at all? Also, any good strategies in general for beating this mission? Stupid Tollaws, Bulclaws and Crimson Assassins... think they're so neat with their Pierce abilities... Bah.

Lol, that is a bitch of a mission. I got a B rank on time purposes. Smashing Tollaws that suddenly become invincible, an stay on when they get 0HP is no fun at all.

I think C@pricornus' expanation is correct.
But I think with Sighting 4, if you use either Kranz, Sif'ler or Inolis, it affects who you can use in the last mission. I used Kranz on Sighting 4, and I could only use Inolis (out of those 3 characters) for Pollux. But CS used Sifler, but he could still use Sifler, but not Kranz or Inolis.
Its very strange.

It means there's a cutscene associated with deploying both characters together, or there's a card available if you play with that character and talk to them later. In some cases both apply.

e.g. 1 - Arkz missions 6-1, 8-2, 11-B, 17-1, & 22-1 tell Endu's story if you play those missions with him.

e.g. 2 - If you talk to Creinu BEFORE completing main mission 10 (Backup) she will ask you to send her to Mortis Fons. If you do so, then talk to her after you've completed main mission 10 she will give you a Companion card.

Yes, getting that Companion card is worth it I have found. Very funny when the opponent uses a 11HP technique attack on my Claw with 1 HP, only to have my Companion card used. Its very good doing that.

Most of the time when you get 'deploy me' from NPCs, they can get combo attacks if you have other characters there.

I managed to find a guide which showed me the storyline branches and which had cutscenesSmile.

I understood your examples, but I don't understand the first condition you stated. What do you mean by "both characters together"? Is it obvious? I feel a bit stupid now.

P.S. Yep. Companion card good unless your opponent also uses it on you. Tongue
