My Forum Idea - Revisited - Double Edge - 29-04-2005

A Hack Idea - Originally Posted By Double Edge

Okay, well...you may refer to the above link (thread). I suggested a while ago now that the Ragol.co.uk Forums' administrator, Sol, implement a title system. Back then, he decided against that, and of course, it was for a good reason.

What was the reason, you ask (if you have not yet clicked on the link and read the threadTongue)? It was that many members may spam to the X number of posts needed to allow themselves to have their own custom title (in addition to their current one. ie. Staff Member, Legendary Hero, etc.). The user would get their custom title by using their User CP.

While that is very true, all too true, in fact, that many desperate members may spam their way to the required posts, we have very reliable staff here that would prevent such dishonest posting. For instance, myself; I was not a staff member/moderator when I last suggested this. Neither was Ivan or Kefka, and any other additions. Since my last suggestion of this idea, several staff members have been hired to help out and watch the site/forums. We could help a lot in order to prevent such relentless posting to occur, to keep the forums clean.

Let's examine my idea further...

Pros:

~An excellent forum addition, in general (ie. matching title and avatar)
~Would easily attract more members to join
~Would spur members to post more often, and therefore maintain an active forum environment
~Of course, a lot of fun

Cons:
~May incur spamming by members

That's actually the only negative I can think of, currently. As you can see, the positives of having a Custom Title Hack easily outweigh the negatives. The moderators/admins here would be able to limit the amount of power posting to an absolute minimum, in order to keep the forums clean of posts made only to up the users' count.

I believe that this Custom User Title Hack would be most beneficial to our growing community. I think that if the administration (Sol, mainly), is still concerned about the spam issues (like all of us), we should give it a test-run anyway. If the hack promotes an incredible amount of spamming, I would understand that the hack would need to be deleted.

Please, I ask that this hack be implemented, at least for a test. Please, Sol. It would be great. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Other members, please post your thoughts.

Truly,
Double Edge

It sounDs like a gooD iDea, but that May also cause soMe MoDs to becoMe even More strict on posting rules.... *coughKefkacough*

Give it a two or three week test, see how it works out...

My Forum Idea - Revisited - Double Edge - 29-04-2005

Well, I think that the mods have every right to be strict on posting rules..they aren't called the rules for nothing.

Thanks for the support!

sounds good to me...

Why do we have to have a minimum posts limit? Set it to 1, then you eradicate the only con!

My Forum Idea - Revisited - whiteninja - 29-04-2005

But then it's no rewarD, it's just soMething you get for signing up.

My Forum Idea - Revisited - Double Edge - 29-04-2005

To be perfectly honest, it really doesn't matter to me when you are allowed a custom title; be it 500 posts or 1, I just love the idea.

My Forum Idea - Revisited - Teh EkwEE - 29-04-2005

I loved/have loved the idea. Spamming isn't too big on the fourms anyway. Sure we all occasionally spam, but then there are those who do it........A LOT. I can think of several off hand. I won't mention names, but if we catch them doing it for any reason can't we always reduce their number of posts to below that the requirement? :/ I think most of us would enjoy this.....there are very few in my opinion who would abuse the right to have this.

To FN, it seems redundant to earn something after one post......... :/ your mag will not have even evolve at yet, for the first time. If you want to set a limit, make it where your mag evolves at level 50, or something high enough to attain and reach for, but low enough to where we don't have to be legendary champions..........

My Forum Idea - Revisited - Double Edge - 29-04-2005

I think that, for a forum (this one) which doesn't have quite as many active posters as some other major ones, 500 is a fair limit. At another vBulletin forum I visit, their limit is 1K - pretty big there. Of course, I have almost 3000 posts there.

My Forum Idea - Revisited - Teh EkwEE - 29-04-2005

Meh, I don't care really what the limit is as long as it's something high enough to where people who only come here to post a question don't get it. It would enocourage active posting, but then we would have multiple threads about n00bish stuff, I love the idea, it's just whether Sol wants it or not....
