What do you think about it?

When I was at Heathrow airport a while ago, I saw shelves of cigarettes for sale. But they were different from what I see in the U.S. There were the same brands, but they had written in large print on them "Smoking seriously harms you and others." "Smoking kills." "Smoking causes lung cancer." etc... and yet there were about 5 people browsing around trying to find which of the many brands they wanted to buy. Seeing this made me just want to start yelling at those fools! It blatantly says that it will kill you and yet they were about to buy it!

Also, I've noticed at several CVS's and 7-11 or other stores, behind the counter, they have all the cigarettes, and right next to them are the nicotene patches and gum that are supposed to help you quit! If you put both of those out for someone trying to quit, and while they're buying the patches/gum and they see cigarettes, won't that make it a little tougher for them!?

Many of my relatives on my dad's side of the family smoke, and I don't understand why they do it. It's exspensive, smells, and more importantly, it's deadly!

So, opinions, anyone?

Its an awful habit, its not only dangerous to you but to others aswell. What doesnt make sense is killing yourself is illegal but slowly killing yourself is alright.. The governement should definately ban cigarettes.

Cigarettes and Alcohol (when abused for the alcohol...I guess) are the only two legal drugs in the world Big Grin. That is what a social studies teach I once had said. I don't mind smokers, as long as they don't puff right in my face or in a confined space. I can always go find room away from them if it's not confined.

imho, smoking definitely costs too much.

but yeah, i worked as a clerk and noone seemed to care for those little stickers.
i mean, come one... they use medical speech on it. most smokers are too dense to follow a sophisticated discussion already, why would they know what spermatozoids are.
one customer liked to make pseudo-sarcastic jokes about it (well, as sarcastic as you can be being an unemployed Tongue ) - "smoking lets your left arm rot off".

and i chatted with a co-worker about that they'd not put dull sentences on it but actually pictures of lung cancer, aged faces of 30 year olds that smoked for a while, a nice smoker's leg, the amount of tar in the lungs of someone smoking 20 years or so ... something really frightening. but she said "i have to sell these things, no way they put scary pictures on it!"

Letthem kill themselfs and waste their money. I dont care as long as there not near me

Really hate it, personally.

If they really want to smoke, let them do it in their houses, waste their own money etc.

What I detest is being at a party, or wherever, and so many people are smoking, the whole place feels filled with smoke. It's like smoking is so important that they're free to mess up everyone else's breathing.. :S

I think a smoking ban in all public places would be a fine thing.

the problem if trhe government ban smoking outright is that it'll force the smokers to buy their fags off the black market. as it is as well, the government make a massive profit off the tax they put on cigarettes, so dont want to stop. personally, i think there should be pictures of what happens on fags, instead of writing which is easy to ignore. smoking is disgusting, and it should be stopped though an outright ban isnt the answer

erm......i kinda like alchohol a bit too much a couple of stella's a night is that bad? i think it might be

They take ciggies off the shelf, everything else gets jacked up in price. Sad , That'll be the way the government screws us over.

Alchy is ok, only when u dont abuse drinking it.

But yes I do agree with you, ciggies smell, and are expensive. really people these days should see how much they spend, if u stop buying ciggies and control all other cravings, u would actually have money in your pocket, instead of spending like $40 (canadian) for ciggies each week.

Uhh, 15 and already getting addicted to alcohol? Yeah, that's bad! You need to get some help with that...

I could see how the government would want cigarettes to stay on the shelves, with all the tax money that comes from it... but then again, in countries where healthcare is provided by the government, how much do you think would be saved by not having to treat nearly as many lung cancer patients each year? And how much do you thing buisnesses would save from no smoking-breaks, and how many more people would enjoy going to resturants and bars more? (the non-smoking sections are always to close to the smoking...)
