Ark

Born to a wealthy family on Coral, Ark's parents passed while he was still quite young. He would have been alone, if not for the RAcaseal his parents had hired as a caretaker for Ark. as Ark got older, his intrests in becoming a hunter seemed they could not be stopped, however his parents had left in their will, Ark would surrender all his enheritance if he were to become a hunter of any kind. Two years later, Ark had passed his hunter's exam, and his enheiritance went to good casues, as well as the government. He and his RAcaseal caretaker got on Pioneer 2, becuase of donations his family made in the past. By the time Pioneer 2 reached the Ragol star system, Ark was a young man of 18(meaning he got on the ship at the age of 11) and ready to aid the people on Pioneer 2, and search for survivors of Pioneer 1.

Note: This backstory may or may not spoil some minor points in my upcoming FAQ (which is why I'm only posting my FOmar's backstory, since the RAmarl and HUcaseal are the main characters) If you like the backstory I have up, please pressure me into writing the story, I feel more obligated to write when there are readers.

Quote:Name: Kaname Shinigawa
Section ID: Whitill
D.O.B.: A.U.W. 3059
History:
A.U.W. 3059: Engineered in a laboratory on planet Coral, Kaname was one of the many experiments performed by Dr. Osto Hyle during his work on project MOTHER with Dr. Jean Montague. He was raised by the influential Shinigawa family, one of Dr. Hyle’s most generous sponsors, but continued to visit the doctor weekly as he was a living specimen. Gradually, noticeable marks such as his silver hair, large red eyes, and face marks appeared, casting Kaname off from the rest of society. Thus, when Kaname was 17, he followed Dr. Hyle onto Pioneer 1 in hopes of finding a more tolerable world to live in.

A.U.W. 3075: He became Dr. Hyle’s assistant since he was already familiar with the lab from his weekly checkups and worked privately with the doctor on a more powerful android for project MOTHER. Before Pioneer 1 completed its voyage, Ibuki was created and disguised as Kaname’s servant android. At this time he also registered for the Surface Exploration Team in order to carry out environmental research for Dr. Hyle.

A.U.W. 3082: Soon after landing Dr. Hyle confirmed the presence of Photons and D-Factor and built two labs. His main lab in the Seabed Area and a decoy lab in the Mines. Kaname continued gathering data on the surface of Ragol, completely unaware of the mutations happening underground. Shortly after Heathcliff Flowen was announced dead a kill order for Kaname was sent to WORKS (the 32nd Space Mechanized Mobile Infantry), causing both Kaname and Ibuki to roam Ragol as fugitives.

A.U.W. 3084: Kaname and Ibuki are found in the Mountain Area around Dr. Hyle’s seabed lab and are confronted. From Ibuki’s memory data, Kaname escaped the assassination attempt via Telepipe never to be seen again. Ibuki’s memory log cuts off shortly after.

Also note: this is sort of a rough draft for the backstory. It's actually much deeper than this, but if I posted everything than it'd just be spoilerific.

Book one...
---------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 1: Memories
---------------------------------------------------------------------

At first, there was a crimson sky. Then came cries, the cries of his master. His master was elderly looking, but seemed to be filled with such energy that you could have mistaken him easily for someone much younger. The master fell, and blood surrounded him. There were howls in the distance and shadowy figures emerging from the undergrowth on all sides. If he could just hold out until dawn, he though, his masters life may be saved - saved from the white light that even now engulfed them both. The white light swallowed them and everything faded away. He woke up.

Dusk was a Hucast, of old and now faulted design. He had been created to serve one of the factions of Coral, before photon technology had been conceived or even thought of. He carried his master?s sword still, a katana with 1975 engraved on one side. This, his master had told him, was the true Agito, wrought by a great master of steel long ago. He looked at the blade, it still seemed as sharp as the day he had first been assigned his master, and the day he has first carried his master?s sword when he was too old to fight himself. The metal was folded, and as he had learned through his own endeavours it could only be used in a kind of diagonal - vertical slash or a stab effectively.

When the remaining factions banded together to form the twin pioneer project to escape their doomed planet, destroyed by war and pollution, his master had joined the government and he had stayed in his service. Not so long ago he had been convicted of his masters' murder and had been exiled from pioneer 2 to his own fate. He had explained to the head of office himself that monsters had slain his master, and he had brought him back to pioneer 2 via a teleport gate he had found near by built by the citizens of pioneer 1 before the explosion supposedly in a futile effort to escape the monsters that even now roamed the ruined city of a ship in the hope that he could be revived.

Unfortunately for Dusk, recently a group called Works had been stirring up resentment against the android faction of pioneer 2, saying they had become faulty, corrupt and capable of in-human treatment of others. The old 'A.I. scandal'.

Dusk wondered why he had blacked out; he lay in the forest, rain thundering down all around him. The electrical energy in the air must have interfered with his communications systems and power source, he thought. Maybe the few androids of pioneer 1 developed a cure for this, he should look around. Or else, go deeper, down, down into the abandoned mines where no interference could reach him. He shuddered at this notion, for he had heard of the horrors down in the deep, where the research team went. Where that girl went, that famed red ring Rico. They were lost, also to the deep. The first of the hunters.

He heard growls the other side of the gate, he drew his katana from his side. The gates opened, and he was prepared now for anything that would strike, from the forest or from the deep.

It began with white, he thought, and will end with black. Both can engulf, on both hang a certain sense of mystery.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 2: Into the fray, or else the darkness within
---------------------------------------------------------------------

As he ran through the gate, bright red eyes began to glow from all sides. He gauged the situation, there appeared to be many minions backed up by heavier mammals that he had found out in his research were called hildebears... only, they were supposed to be docile despite their size. The bizarre creatures flowed round to his left as if they had one mind, and suddenly without warning swarmed in. Claws and teeth, everywhere.

He cut through one of the minions only to find it replaced by another. Swathes upon swathes emerging as if from nowhere. Then, to his far right he glanced an opening in the ground. This was where many of the creatures were emerging from. When he saw an opening in the screen of enemies he pelted over to the caves gaping entrance, like two huge jaws. He opened his right and left arm compartments, from one compartment he threw a high explosive charge down the entrance to the cave, and from the other he took out a chemical charge and hurled it into the enemies.

Rapidly the demented animals became angered further, an in-experienced observer may have thought he had just sealed his own fate but the beasts had become so distraught with rage they had begun to slay each other. Soon all that was left was a bloody mess on the floor.

There was a dull thudding from behind. Dusk looked around and saw something that would have made his insides churn had he been a mere human. He gazed up into the eyes of a hildebear, but it didn't look like the others he had seen. It towered above him; it was a monster of a monster! It was covered in almost steely grey armour and its shoulder horns were gigantic. Its very mouth seemed to breathe the scent of death corruption and decay.

It lunged at him and his sword arm was ripped clean off. He dived for cover, behind some kind of pillar (he had learned from officials on Pioneer 2 these were built by the citizens of Pioneer 1 as a commemoration of their landing, but this he could not believe) and he quickly produced a small pistol from his left leg hatch with his remaining un-afflicted arm. Hot photon energy buzzed through the cool air creating waves of moisture as it flew to strike its' target right between the eyes. It did not seem to affect the lumbering beast in the slightest.

It suddenly looked as if it were about to vomit, Dusk moved out of cover to try and take advantage of the situation but then came something vulgar. A huge ball of pure decay flew from the beast?s jaws, it smelled of death and somehow Dusk knew this would be what it would bring. It struck his left leg, and instantly it rusted away as if it were as ancient as the rest of the planets relics, Dusk fell backwards into an unseen well, covered by undergrowth and he remembered no more. Darkness engulfed him, his screaming sensors faded-through one by one. Darkness he thought would be his reckoning for a crime he had not committed.

Chapter 3: Forgotten metal
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Decades passed, broken metal lay long forgotten in the shelter of a secret well, but it would not survive undiscovered for much longer.

Special ops teams had been sent out by the head of office at pioneer 2. These teams were designed to be support groups for hunters and were christened the Rangers, they favoured ranged weaponry and were far more understanding of machines and the way they worked than any 'Hack n' slash' hunter.

They were mechanics, snipers, and the heavy artillery. One such special ops team had been sent out to salvage technology developed by Pioneer 1 that may be able to help in the war effort. There was a war, a war in the deep and little of the events unfolding underneath them the ranger scout group the 'hell hawks' knew. All they knew was they had received a faint signal from some kind of shelter in the forest.

Scope was slowly passing a pair of broken gates; behind him were Warhawk and Finchy. Scope brushed one hand through his hair and gazed back into Warhawks' visor. "Picking anything up back there?" he bellowed. "The situation appears to be stable sir" responded Warhawk in a metallic voice. Finchy took her rifle from her back and held it up to her good eye. "I don't like the feel of this, sir, we have already lost one of our team so far and I'm not about to let us loose another." They wandered into a dense area of undergrowth with a few shrubs and odd scraping marks in the ground.

The more the team studied the area, the more confusing things became. Finchy spotted a dead plant that seemed to have just given up on life; decay reeked from its bone like branches reaching up towards the sky as if in protest to an unstoppable force.

"Blimey!" murmured Scope. "Look here Hawk, there's a photon mark on this wall, it's kinda slanted though. Looks like a ricochet!" there was a thunderous roar, birds spiralled into the thick sky in desertion of their homes and silence was kept a few moments longer. A giant monstrosity suddenly reaping through the forest charged straight at Warhawk, he went down in under a few seconds. Scope opened his COM link with Pioneer 2 and screamed into the mike "Man down man down! No, Harle I don't give a crap if it was 'only the android' we're not getting into one of these bullshit arguments now just get me support or I'll court marshal you myself when I get back!" then, he took three flat metal disks from his utility pouch and flung them onto the floor in the rough shape of a triangle, there was a moments whirring and suddenly bright, beautiful lights sprung forth from the forest floor.

From the light a shadowy figure emerged, calm at first his technical force gauntlet plain on his right hand with the emblem of the house of science clearly imprinted on it. His red fiery robe contrasted sharply with the pale skin of his face and his mud brown hair, medium in length. There was a thunder crack and lightning cascaded from the sky striking the brute in the chest and sending it reeling backwards.

Warhawk, who had by now found his feet, picked up his guided rocket system (prototype 'Inferno') and blasted the monstrosity in the head. Suddenly, it opened its jaws and out came the force of decay. "Not this time you ugly son of a bitch" said the mysterious force. He clasped his hands together and released a giant flow of purple energy easily equal to the hildebears own attempts to master the arts of death. It swallowed up the ball of decay and hurled it full on into the the monster. A gut wrenching, ear splitting, in-human sound pierced through the night like a white hot knife through black butter. The monster later to become known as the 'Hildetorr' dissolved on the spot, and the last anyone saw of the creature were the two black recesses where its' eyes should have been.

"I'll continue to the salvaging site while you mop up here" said Finchy and with that she was gone.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 4: Relics of the Possessed Forest
---------------------------------------------------------------------

As Finchy swept silently through the ferns and bracken-like plants surrounding her, she noticed an odd hole apparently ripped into the ground. Every one of her senses was heightened, if there was another armoured beast near by she would never deal with such a devastating opponent on her own. She lent over the hole to see a kind of ceramic material lining the edges of what once must have been a well. It smelled Dank and musty, her nose wrinkled at the stench.

As she peered inside the well, she noticed a small glint at the bottom; she marked the site with a radio-receptor and turning to her left saw a hunk of metal lumped on the floor. Curiously, she advanced towards it. It was an old android arm, possibly a relic from Pioneer 1. Then, startled, she noticed a long fine blade in its grasp. She picked it up and ran its' edge along the inside of her hand. She gasped as blood flowed from her index finger. It was still sharp after what must have been decades. Sharp as when it was created, it seemed. The sky was clearly visible along the fine blade, reflected, blue and ambient. It was a fine weapon; it must have been wrought by one of the masters of steel long ago, long ago on Coral when such substances were still plentiful and of good quality. There was a shout from behind her.

"Finchy" said a melodious voice. There stood the force, Warhawk and Scope. "We picked up your signal" said Scope bluntly. "Yes" said Finchy as if she had just come out of a trance. "It's over there, in that well". Scope walked over as the force illuminated the well with a pure white source of light. "Wow, it's an old android all right. Looks like a military enforcer, first of those Hucasts. Not one of our lots. Hey, hey Finch. Imagine what it could tell us eh? What stories he could tell..."

Finchy spun around with the sword in her left hand and the android arm in her right. "We should repair him" she commented without a second thought. Warhawk took a step back from the well, there was a clicking sound from inside his right shoulder pad and from the back of his head a laminated photograph was produced. "You should look at this sir". Scope took the photograph from the back of the androids head; it was a picture of the bottom of the well. It showed the back of the fallen jet black android. Four characters were clearly printed centrally on its back. They read 'D U S K'.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 5: Faded Future
---------------------------------------------------------------------

All he could here was a buzzing sound. The darkness was finally lifting, bright lights, hummed overhead. He was spread out on some kind of work surface, he could not yet tell shapes and colours from one another, nor fully distinguishes words, but something was happening. Someone or something must be trying to repair him.

"Why do you insist on working on that thing anyway? It has been thirty-six hours and no progress seems to have been made at all..." Scope interjects offhandedly. "Well if we're to have the team back at full strength again it is kinda' essential" Finchy retorted, as she put down the blowtorch. "That's enough for today, I carried out some research on this sword and if it's not another replica like the other hundreds I have seen it is the true Oroagito."

"Hah hah, yeah right, the true Oroagito. You know, if it is I'll give you Three-hundred-thousand meseta and that's a promise." As Scope walks out of the room, Finchy glances away from the white, plastic-like interior of the room, gleaming in a bright white light as she catches movement out of the corner of her eye.

The android sits up on the table, flexing its' restored arm. "Systems stable, operating system stable. Physical functions appear not to be abnormal. Where am I? Where is the beast? Where is my sword?"

Finchy gasps. The android leans over the table side, and picks up his masters sword. The sword of injustice, the sword of the pain, the memories that will never leave him - here in the faded future, it appears not even time can distance him from the events long ago in the forest of sorrow.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 6: The Shaft
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Dusk looked around warily. Whether this was a result of his previous experiences through the broken gates, or whether he had become more human as a result of these experiences he did not know. Cautiously he led the ranger team to the caved entrance of the cave. "It's here" he said. "This is the shaft that the enemies were pouring out of". "Right, let?s get this show on the road" said Scope in a husky voice. "Warhawk, can you blow a hole in this?? "Yes sir!" War Hawk took his guided rocket system from his back holster and aimed it on what his scanner told him to be the weakest point in the rubble wall. "Fire away!"

There was a tremendous explosion, heat waves shimmered through the air breaking around the team, bent double and shielding themselves with their hands they advanced into the shaft.

Half an hour later in the twisted system of shafts and pot holes Finchy noticed something on the wall. "Photon residue, it must have formed as the result of photon based digging equipment operating at such low levels. The pressure caused it to form." A drop of the photon residue was captured in a specimen chamber. It shimmered and flickered relaxingly and contained all the colours in the spectrum visible to the human eye. "Hah, a photon drop, that's what we'll call it for now, right, so you say digging equipment was blasting into the ground here Finchy?" Scope looked over his shoulder as he received no reply. "Finchy, that is right isn't it?". There was silence for a moment or two, and then Finchy responded, turning around shaking slightly. Every footstep, every voice seemed to echo more loudly then usual. "The narrow shaft we came down, sir, was formed naturally, but here where it is straight..." she looked at the shaft wall again "From the earth flow, sir... they were trying to get out! To escape, from something, something terrible".

There was a rumble from the deep, then shrieks, but not those of innocent victims. At least, not those of human victims. They were the shrieks of the spirits trapped inside the distorted, altered beasts, now lumbering their way towards the group of explorers. "Shit" Scopes eyes widened as shadows started appearing from tunnel entrances on all sides. "Analysis, Warhawk?". Warhawk looked closely at the commanding officer "I believe in human terms I can roughly translate it as we are screwed sir". "Why do they always send me on the suicide missions Finchy, you think they're trying to get rid of us Finchy?" The murderous cries came closer. Finchy smirked. "We're not done for yet sir! Look here, it appears some of the men trying to escape before were left alive. See here? There?s a small tunnel, they were trying to dig out manually! Let's hope they made it, eh sir?" The party clambered into the dank tunnel, it may have been scorching hot when it was formed but that was one aspect of the tunnel that had rapidly changed.

"Thank you everyone, I hope you make it out of here alive" Dusk suddenly interrupted. "I must find the cause for these monstrosities so I may prove to the head of office my innocence and clear my name. It may not be worth much now but I hope to see you all again with a better reputation." "What are you blathering on about you stupid robot! Get in the tunnel! That is an ORDER!" boomed Scope, but it was too late, the android had chosen his path, down into the deep. They must follow their own paths into what they hoped would be the light of day. And so the newly formed company was broken as quickly as it had united.

Dusk could only hope the army would be down in the deep still fighting the monsters, he had a horrible feeling that the team that first landed here and dug down (on the ship codenamed the Gran Squall) were all long dead. Brute force could not be his tactic, he must clear his name, clear his memories. They came back to him every day, like drops of summer rain that would never fade away.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 7: The Forces in the Deep
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Dusk ran through shaft after shaft. The things, whatever they were, were gaining on him. Not because they were necessarily faster, he thought, but because they seemed to know every shortcut and every single tunnel. It was like some immense force was guiding them to him. The ground beneath his feet suddenly gave way, and he spiralled down, down into the darkness. There what a resounding crash as he hit the metal floor beneath him.

This was odd, thought Dusk. Why was there a metal floor in the lower levels of an underground cavern? As he stood up, a pillar of fire erupted from the middle of the un-natural room. It was huge, sort of square with a circular hole in the middle. Fire blasted from this hole, it must be some kind of pressure valve. What was what looked like human equipment doing down here? There was no time to think about that now. There were two doors at either end of the room, one was locked and the other was violently shaking. Eerie voices came from behind. Suddenly a giant insect-like beast ripped straight through the door. It was a greeny-blue colour and had two huge scythe like arms. Dusk suddenly noticed they had photon blades attached to them, what was going on? He was sure photon technology was not a natural trait of animals in any star system.

The creature slashed at him, once, twice - he dived to his left unsheathing his katana and in one swift movement he cut off one of its arms. As it fell, he caught it by its oozing end and swung it around into the centre of the ugly things chest. As it collapsed, its stomach split open and millions of tiny grasshopper like things scuttled across the floor. Dusk heard a screeching clunk and the locked door unsealed. Something was bringing him closer. As it opened, he saw the interior was cool and coated in a thin layer of ice cold water, how were two such different places situated so close to each other? With a jolt he realised just how deep he must be getting. He continued through the door. It locked behind him.

Memories flow freely as a raging river, but like any one place in the river those memories can only be visited once, you cannot turn back, except in your mind. If you try to go back, you must face eternal darkness, but going forwards offers hope, and so forwards must surely be the only direction to choose, but you must always be wary of the forces in the deep.

Chapter 8: The Philosophy of a Mechanical Soul
---------------------------------------------------------------------

It had been 5 days since Scope and the rest of his team had returned to Pioneer 2, they had heard no more from the mysterious android. He had either gone down too deep for com-links to communicate with him, or he had met his fate down in the depths of Ragol. There was a definite tension in the atmosphere on Pioneer 2. Mostly, this has been stirred up by the A.A.P (anti android party) a sub-faction of W.O.R.K.S devoted to 'cleansing' Pioneers population of 'corrupt and deficient androids'. At first, many had opposed the movement but somehow Harle the leader of the party had managed to visualise the androids of Pioneer 2 as non-intelligent and animal like. Scope had always known that Harle cared little for androids, and he was looking for a reason amongst the people of the ship to become popular so he could overthrow the new principal.

There had been incidents all across the dark metropolis. Androids had been sabotaged as they re-charged, not one was safe. Scope clambered out of bed and stared around at the artificial interior of his quarters. He gazed out of the window. The city seemed ablaze with lights, advertisements. No where here could you find inner peace, part of him wanted to be back down in that forest despite the dangers there.

"OK get up team it'll be role call time in 6 minutes." Finchy appeared from her cabin in full camouflage, but War Hawk was no where to be seen. Odd, thought scope, that android doesn?t even need to get dressed and he still manages to be late. Typical. "War Hawk get your butt out here!" shouted Scope. He leered into War Hawks cabin, there was glass all over the floor. "Shit, the windows broken, the A.A.P must have taken him in the night!" Finchy muttered. "No" said Scope "The window bars only come down at 6.00 AM and look the bars aren't damaged. It's only 7.13AM now they can't have gotten far!" and sure enough as they looked out the window they saw three hooded and cloaked members of A.P.P sneaking off into a side alley. "You have gone too far this time Harle!"

Scope leaped from the balcony Finchy not far behind, they were running through the crowed streets lights and faces blurring by, Scope ran around the entrance to the alley. "What are you doing with those androids soldier?" he barked. There were more than just one android bundled in front of them. "Harles' orders to -" the soldier began "We do not damn well take orders from Harle in this company soldier, put down your weapons!"

"I can't" said the soldier in a gruff voice "If you understood what these things really were captain you would -" "You bastard!" scope screamed at the man "You think just because these creations are our own that they don't have a soul to, I tell you truly that they feel emotions, they laugh and cry, look at them shake you scum! They have advanced to the point where they are no different from you or me!!! They have experienced things, they have sensors to feel and now even to taste and you tell me because they work differently inside they have no soul, well they have more soul then you soldier now put that gun DOWN!"

"No sir" the lead soldier aimed his handgun at the head of one of the unknown androids. He began to squeeze the trigger, it happened in a flash. Scope drew two mechguns from inside his coat and savagely cut through the men as Finchy could only look on in horror. "I know who the real monsters are here, it's the damn A.A.P! I will be kicked out of the military for this, and I am glad because it is more corrupt than any android will ever be."

"This way if you are with us sir" droned a small Racaseal. She led the new party through what looked like a shell hole into a building and down into an oddly clean cellar. It was part of the hollow underground network where they would surely make their final stand.

It does not matter who or what you we, to think defines us as living beings and according to this we must live our lives or else lose our souls forever in the oblivion of cold emotions.
