Tiscali Broadband
#1
Just an update on my broadband situation and a warning to anyone thinking of going with Tiscali.

DON'T

It's now been well over a month and still they have not sorted my being able to play online between the hours of 5 and 11pm.

Despite contacting various people nobody is able to sort out the issue and they are unwilling to give me any form of compensation or allow me to cancel the 12 month contract.

The situation has become worse with me being unable to get online at various other times, all down to tiscali and their lack of ability to provide the service they sold me.

All I get is "can you browse web pages?, then we are providing you with a broadband service. This despite the fact that the package I subscribed to was there max service which is for online gaming.

Please Please, anyone thinking of going with them, DON'T.

Roll on September 2007, when I can tell them to stuff it and go with BT broadband.

That is pretty bad. I'm running off of a university network and my connection is strangely more stable and more reliable than a lot of other people I see on PSU, despite the fact that there's a good 10,000 people using the same connection. ISP's are just generally a bunch of pricks, as a standard rule of thumb. The one that I used to use at the foster home was pretty bad. I had to go to great lengths to get them to send out a technician to fix a problem with the DS not wanting to connect... and the amusing thing was the technician himself complained about how terrible the customer service was at the ISP. XD

Interestingly, my broadband connection goes down whenever the phone rings.

It's really weird.

A keyboard is now mine. Fear my fast-typing skills. I play the PS2 version of PSU.

100% Agree with you about Tiscali. Never chose them as your ISP.

We moved house and informed them of it in advance they told us it would be 3 weeks until the connection would have been sorted out at our new house. We waited three weeks and nothing. We ring again, they tell us to give them 90 minutes to sort it. So we sit and wait again. Nothing. We call them again and they say we have to wait another 3 weeks and we were misinformed. WTF? 6 Weeks to do something so simple??

We just dropped them last week and we have BT Broadband. 8mb, Wireless router with it and everything. Definately worth it. Plus their customer support is excellent... so far. Lol.

Anyway, yeah stay away from Tiscali.

That sounds like a problem with your Filters/Splitters. Either a faulty Filter or a Missing filter on a phone extension cord or main line would cause a break in the connection when the phione line was active. Thus disconnecting the Broadband.
Hope that can sort your prob Tongue Was a gd game friday btw heh!!

Thanks for that, but alas is nothing to do with faulty equipment. I can quite happily play the game till around 5pm, which is tiscali peak time, I then get booted off and can't get back on till 11pm, which is the end of their peak period. Weekends are now getting a pain as well, as it starts at 2pm till 11pm. So I'm left playing from 11pm through the night till whenever and just hope i can get a couple of hours in the afternoon before the 5pm deadline.

I just want anybody out there to know whats going on, and not get caught out by going for tiscali. They offer you an 8mb service for gaming, yet they can't fulfil the offer. They put a clause in the contract to state they will provide web browsing facility, so you can't get them for a contract breach.

I'm now stuck with another 9 months to go, with a company that to my mind is a waste of space. I don't even get 8mb on my web browsing, system tests from them show a maximum of 3.5mb, but they say this is good enough and nobody actually ever gets 8mb speed.

The only way out I've been told is if I move abroad, as they can't provide me the service then. Damn expensive way to get out of a contract.
