Also, if you analyse something to identify invividual components they must be separated from the rest of the system. If you extract things, even just to view them, the system is still modified. If you redesign a system you again; have to modify it. Thus "ZOMG h4x!"

If that modification is un-authorised (and I'm pretty sure gaining access to a level 500+ character is restricted) then it's still illegal. If you engineer something, you don't merely look at it. Although looking and identifying may be mostly all there is, there is still modification. And also, what if you want to identify something you're un-authorised to view? To get into a position of viewing it would indeed, be hacking.
Once you stop analyzing and start modifying, it is no longer reverse engineering. Since in this case, the modifying in question would have to be memory editing. Since you own the memory, editing it wouldnt be unauthorized. The company doesnt own the space it's program is using. They have no authority over what you do with the memory you own.

Of course none of this takes in account if there was any server side editing.

:'(

See, they bann me instead of trying to contact me or ask for any sort of information. Pissing off someone who knows how to modify the game isnt exactly the brighest idea... but kudos to them for getting me so quickly. Wouldnt have expected Microsoft to lift a finger. Probably shouldnt have left the Crea Doubles on my account... anyways theres more pics on my website if anyones curious.

Reverse engineering would require both analyzing and modifying.

And actually no you don't own your own save files. If you were caught trying to sell a save file on Ebay or something you could be sued because the memory is actually owned by the people who own the software which generated it. Even if it wasn't stored server side, still illegal. That's why Datel have been through some bad law cases. Especially when they tried to release codes for online games for the "Action Replay" (Mainly, of course, for our beloved phantasy star online)!

It does suck that they wouldn't pay you any heed snowfox. But still, they got to you quickly enough. Maybe a GM spotted you? You know in the entire time I played PSU I never saw a GM once.

i would like to see some hacks and stuff, keep the hacks for your self, don't put others in that situation, play the game, hack the game and then see when the hacks reveal something unusual.
i like to see that

By definition it doesnt require modifying.

By memory I was refering to RAM.

You are correct, but theres really no reason in arguing. I've learned ignorance is bliss, and everyone has a right to their opinion, whether its correct or not, which in this case it isnt, but hes free to think whatever he wants. Nothing wrong with that. He isn't going to change his mind or belief, so its pretty much pointless taking up forum space with argumentive posts.
