How do you use japanese chracters?

i have japanese unicode on my system and font enabled in settings, how do i type in kana, it doesn't work the same way as it does in other games.

Hmm well if you have a keyboard hooked upto your GC then hit the ¬ key until you can type in the desired lettering. If not press Y and the software keyboard will flip open on your screen then just oress R or L and scroll to the correct letters.
