However, I don't think that any civilization of this time would be able to withstand an earthquake that scaled magnitude 9. That would completely obliterate us here in NYC even. So in all reality it could have happened to any of us, and what upsets me most is that America donates a good 20 million to some disasater in Florida, while they donate some insignificant amount to this incident. It angers me.

Well, there are some things that anger me about this disaster too. It is like everything else is forgotten, and people focus the most on helping Thailand. They did not loose som many people as Indonesia and Sri Lanka, but Thailand got most of the attention because of the tourists. If there wasn't so many tourists that died, the rest of the world would not have payed som much attention, they would not have gotten in so much money.
And again, the rest of the world that needs help are forgotten. Do you donate so much money for the ones starving and dying in Africa? Every week, it dies as many pople in Africa as it did beacuse of the Tsunami, but do the people care? No they don't. They don't earn anything by helping Africa, as they more earn by helping south-east Asia.
I rest my case.

:ermm:

urprise: As I'm sure you're well aware Orphen our country is at the financial breaking point at least we WERE able to send money. We need to take care of our own.........
and get a president who doesn't throw money away like trash......we gave more than enough. It's the fact that money will have no value in this disaster. Money won't grow the food needed to feed the ravaged lands, nor will it build the houses that were lost........at this time the money were sending is about as useful as dirt, sure it'll feed them for the time being and it'll house them for the time being but money only last so long.

this was truly the worst disaster of our time. they reported that an estmated 200,000 will be dead after its all over and about 150,000 will die from disease. the money were sending wont only go to food and temperary shelter, it will go to medicne and schools, churches, homes, just about everyting. so any money you can donate is well worth it..

I merely stating a fact. The money won't rebuild everything, sure it'll pay for the supplies but it won't grow the lost crops, make the sea recede, or build homes. Man power is what is needed. And this is perhaps the worst natural disaster that has happened while I've been alive. God help us should there every be an earthquake that rates a 10 on the Richter Scale. They say what would have been measured an 11 ripped what is now all the northern coast of Europe (England, Ireland, ect.) to shreads some 40 thousand years ago.
