Help with getting an item in my game.

In my gamecube game, I'm trying to get the Lavis Cannon on my Hucast. The guide I'm looking at for how to find certain items suggests splitting pofuilly slimes into more, and then using the telepipe trick. The only problem is, I'm not sure how one actually splits a pofuilly slime into multiple. Can anybody help?

By using weapons you need to hit the 3rd attack in a combo, one easy way to do this is to get an untekked item such as "???? gladius +1" and do special/special/normal, you will miss the 1st and 2nd strike and hit on the 3rd attack, the enemy will split.
Techs are also an easy way, i'm not sure if all techs split them, you can try, i use rabarta to split them.
Once there are 4 slimes, pipe and repeat the process.
