The following is from IGN-PS2 section:-

The .hack series takes place in a virtual Online world -- that is to say, they're Offline games whose story has Online themes. With .hack//fragment, Bandai and co-developers Cyber Connect 2 and Artdink are taking the series into the realm of true Online gameplay for the first time. Using a standard network adapter (no need for a hard disk) you'll have the option of adventuring alongside players throughout the country. When playing Online, you first create your own character. You can give your character a name, profession and gender, and even modify its physical appearance. Once you have a character, you enter a lobby and search for two other players to join you on an adventure. Gameplay in .hack//fragment takes place in groups of three.

The following is a review from Gamespot.com

I cannot stress enough this is not an MMORPG and there is no official release date for this game in North America. This game is an ORPG created for Online/Offline gameplay.

You create your own character from scratch with a gender, profession, name, and a number of physical appearances. Now you are in the lobby. In the lobby you can open a new game or chat it up with others. The world you are in is not like an MMO with a main server containing all the data somewhere, but runs off your own computer, which represents a section of the world. You may quest in groups of three. You may also trade with other players like in any of the previous games with the main difference that they are not NPCs. Also, there are guilds within this game. You may open guild shops and sell items to make money or get special gear.

There will be no monthly fee for this game. If any release date is being set or if it will even come to North America is unknown and BANDAI has said nothing about it. Keep your eyes open for this game release.

From the looks of it,it won't be coming out anywhere but Japan. No release date has been set for release, other that September 2005 for Japan.

nomercy Wrote:I just hope the new games are better than the current ones.I also think more classes should be introduced, like in the manga. These 'special classes' that only high level players can obtain, such as wolf(Ouka)And how about some ranged attacks, and not just magic, either.I mean a good old-fashioned longbow,or something.
Well I have goodnews in G.U. theres a character class that has you using a gun. No magic involved I think it's called steamgunner, but its a sword with a gun at the end of it.

This is from IGN,on the idea of .Hack//G.U.-

The first of three new chapters in CyberConnect2's .hack series, this .hack//G.U. series follows up the original franchise with a new adventure set seven years afterwards in a volatile, unstable version of The World ruled by dominant PKs. The new series features both new and familiar characters, and each chapter of the series is designed to be more distinct from each other than the first .hack quadrilogy.

This is from another article on IGN-

May 16, 2005 - Bandai announced today that .hack//G.U., the next installment in the perennial .hack series is currently in development for the PlayStation 2 platform. The next iteration is being handled by Cyber Connect 2 and is scheduled to launch in Japan and North America next year.

E3 attendees will be among the first to get a glimpse of the game at Bandai's booth scheduled to run every day at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00. p.m.

"We joined forces with the most renowned animated TV show talents to create the original '.hack' series," said Naruo Uchida, Vice President of Bandai Games Inc. "We're proud to announce that Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, the character designer of 'Evangelion,' and Kazunori Ito, the writer of 'Ghost in the Shell' and 'Patlabor,' are both returning for the new game."

From the looks of it,G.U. will come out soon.
