The original Phantasy Star game featured 3 planets: Palma, Motavia and Dezoris(spellings changed in sequel translations).
In the Genesis/Mega Drive sequel, Phantasy Star II, Dark Force/Mother Brain destroy Palma, the original planet of the first game.
In PSIII, the game takes place in biosphere ships that escaped Palma before it blew up.
PSO/Ragol/Pioneer's is thought to be one of the settlements from Palma(and/or the Ruins may also be an escape pod/ship, since Dark Force/Falz hitched a ride from Palma to PSIII).
The original theme of Phantasy Star, what set it apart from other RPG's, was the whole UNIVERSE aspect. You actually travelled between different planets.
Phantasy Star Universe looks to be some sort of amalgamation of the different Phantasy Star game engines and maybe a retelling or "rebirth" of the early storyline.
Another reoccuring aspect of the Phantasy Star series is the blue haired wizards that reincarnate over the generations. The Blue haired lady may be related to or a remake of Lutz/Noah from the earlier games.
