I like them both equally.
Ep1 is classic, the levels are great and you can bask in the hack and slash simplicity of it all.
However, I my view of Ep2 is fractured:
I love the level design. It is so much more difficult to navigate Ep2 dungeons than the Ep1 dungeons. The increased difficulty reminds me so much of Phantasy Star II's dungeons.
I love the storyline. It fits in well with Ep1 and adds to it greatly.
I love the final boss fight, although it is not as legendary as the Falz fight.
I dislike the Gal Gryphon because its attack loop barely varies. Fly, shoot tornadoes, land, stomp, fly...
I do, however, despise the fact that the first two levels do nothing to advance the plotline, although I still like the levels themselves.
I prefer to play Ep2, although I play Ep1 more.
