A.S, to save you getting a router, I recommend you get PSO: Blue Burst when it is released. As it is a pc game, it connects online easily, and it seems like it will be free to download, with only the monthly fee.
As for the addictive nature of PSO, I say it's mostly down to the rewarding levelling up system. Each level seems so near yet so far, it's very well balanced, as well as the good drop ratios. For me personally though, it is the outstanding design that makes me want to return again and again, without tiring. It's such an incredible world, I really find I can get immersed in it. It feels like some amazing futurstic Japanese cartoon... or maybe that's just me! It's hard to put my finger on quite what it is I like so much about it any more, but it really is something special!
