L canceling and Wave dashing are really advance techniques.
L canceling is using the L button to stop the lag when you land from using a A button move. See what you do is right when you hit the floor after doing an aerial A move you tap L really quick and it shortens your recovery time a whole lot.(thus making you move faster than your character normally could) this move is normally combined with short hopping(slightly tapping the Y button to jump just a smidge)
Now for wave dashing. Wave dashing is a move where the character get a small burst of speed from Air dodging diagonally into the ground. If you do it fast enough you won't actually jump, but instead move backwards by sliding.
Instructions are as follows. While standing on the ground(duh)tap the Y button ever so slightly and your character will jump just a bit and as you are in the air tap R or L and the control stick diagnolly down(that Air dodges into the ground, but it doesn't stop you instead you slide on the ground a bit) and if you are good enough and practice hard enough you won't even see your character jump, but instead he will slide along the ground. http://www.smashboards.com (check here for more details)
