No way would the police would kill for PR, I agree with Serpent7 with that.
The problem now seems that he didn't run, he didn't jump the barrier, he wasn't shouted at by the police... He ran slightly to catch the train before it left, but I for one know I have done that many times myself. He wasn't wearing a big duffle-coat that could conceal bombs, apparantly just a normal denim jacket. I think it's a terrible mistake, but that's what it it's, a mistake, and the officers invovled were obviously be under immense pressure, what with the situation, they wanted to be sure. No doubt they may regret that now, and are deeply sorry.
I can't see where the previous reports of him running and everything came from. If the situation really was as described (him sitting on the train normally), I wonder why some of the eye-witnesses just made up stories...
