i don't mean to sound condescending with this post, but just for good measure:
I was a level 86 Fomar when I beat Vel Opt V. 2 on ult.
I believe my Hp was no higher than 650 at best. I'd guess it was in the 500's.
Even now, at 98, that character does not have 700 HP If I remember correctly. To sum it up, this isn't a matter of leveling a character up (unless there's just some advantage that a force, or Fomar, has over this particular boss). It's just a matter of mastering the strategy of beating him.
I fought him twice, dying the first and equipping four scape dolls for the second trip. I used regular barta (it was only 14, thereabouts) and beat all the screens with that. Yes, barta can indeed nail more than one screen if done right. Usually only two, but it saved me TP. Then I used zonde (level 18) on the red pillar (red ONLY). Of course, when I switched up between the two to attack, I also switched between my mace of adaman and club of zumiuran. that could be the difference, maybe.
I'll admit, that stage took FOREVER to finish.
In the second form, I used Gizonde (level 15 roughly) and just ran and ran around him. I remember that he would heal, then perform this random stomping thing. Just as he was finishing the random stomp, I tried to run behind him (that is to say, AWAY from the segment of his body that shoots that orb that catches you). In only one instance did I not manage to do this in time and he nailed me. Hence the previously mentioned scape dolls.
I only saw that orb once because of this. I'm quite certain that what you do here influences his next move. So if you follow this pattern, you can completely avoid the orb altogether. I mean, he honestly wasn't even bothering to shoot it out. at all.
Now I know that with a ranger, it's more difficult to use techs if at all even possible, so I can't help on that end until I get there and fight him with my hucaseal. then i'll have a better idea of how non-tech attacks work on him.
Have I helped at all?
I've only fought the guy twice, beat him once, and learned what I know from that experience.
Tell me if you more experienced folk disagree, but one thing is certain. If i'm misled, being misled got me to the ultimate ruins. so ha.
(not that he stands a chance in there right now, haha)
