the way you use a close combat weapon is with good ATA. the trick is normal, charged charged, hit z/start run off, go in and repeat. if you miss any of those attacks you are in deep poo-poo!
also, its advisable not to use a single hitting weapon against groups of enemies. use something that will (hopefully) move you out of the monsters attacking range such as a double saber or daggers. if you can then get yourself a /battle unit (not general though) as this will increase your speed. last thing is killing an enemy is a pretty surefire way of stopping them from attacking you, so /power units help.
the god hand is one of the harder weapons to use successfully, but also one of the best so its a good weapon to learn how to use.
