The DS and PSP are aimed at two seperate audiences, they are not (in my eyes) in direct competition.
The PSP is a mass media device. It plays songs, games, films, and is very powerful. It can also browse the web (which the DS cannot do yet, even if technically it would be better at it if it could).
The DS is an experiment, it is designed to see what can be done. It uses dual screen, touch screen, mic, basic 3D graphics (around that of an N64, not quite as powerful). It uses ideas and concepts over the PSPs brute power. Neither is better, it depends which you prefer. I love them both.
