Multiple character questions for GC

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but I couldn't find it so here it goes: I just bought a GC and PSO Ep 1&2 plus, I had it on Xbox but my Xbox died. I bought the GC specifically so I could get the Ep 1&2 plus version of the game because I wanted the quests available offline like the east and west towers and I thought gallons shop was on it too but I guess I was wrong about that. Anyhow, I noticed you can have ONLY 4 characters per memory card and if I understand the book correctly only the memory card in slot A will work for character files, so 1) is there a way to transfer items between characters on seperate memory cards? And 2) do I have to have 3 memory cards to have one of each type of character and all of them be a different type of ID? I guess I could deal with that but it seems excessive for it to have to be that way - but if you cant transfer items between characters on different memory cards I will be sorely dissapointed because the whole reason I want at least one of every section ID is so I can find all items that only those IDs can find.
