It's hard starting out because you tend to hoard everything you can just in case it's important. Having said that, the following are rather common drops and you can flog them to an NPC as you go:
Linear Line (Furniture from Clyez missions)
Sunflower (Furniture from Parum missions)
Atomizer X (AoE drug, only really useful to heal your NPC if they're with you)
Trimates (if you're low level these are over kill cures)
Dimates (as above, you can usually get by with monomates)
Most 3* or less [B]boards (keep the Flourescent Bulb ones!)
Try and keep every weapon drop that you can, especially force and hunter weapons, for when you open a shop. These are used in massive quantities to feed Partner Machines so if you charge the right price they sell fast.
Whenever you want to buy something, search player shops for it rather than buy from a store. (But make sure you know the store price first before you buy it from a shop for 3 times that).
And finally, never, ever, attempt to grind a weapon unless you've got a backup in your inventory or the meseta to buy a replacement.
