It seems I would have a small understanding in this form of editing, since I took a college course which depended on the creation and editing of ASM.
However I commend you for not releasing this dangerous edit to the media at large, because as you say yourself, it is dangerous in the wrong hands. Another problem with that however, is that the wrong hands are always groping for new toys, always looking for something else to screw up. Your idea of people challenging it, though, I must say i'm intrigued. Were I able to get online, I would come and see it myself. Unfortunately i'm not. And as you say, another reason not to release it is the legal problems it can cause. But surely by posting this here, you run the risk of someone from SEGA / Sonic Team reading it and going out on a head-hunt for you.
