So what? It's still just mashing a button. Theres very little variance in attacking. Attacks arent really linked anymore. Its a single attack and then another and so on.
Also, it's not really mashing, there's just a (compared to PSO) huge window after an attack for your follow-up. I'm certainly more confortable timing attacks than I am mashing. The follow-up window's really short for PAs, too. Where were combos taken out? I still seem to be making three-hit combos with my weapons, which I can extend with my PAs.
