Take a look at the mag PBs first, and pick the one which is most appropriate for you 
Then pick the character which will evolve that mag. Then, if you don't like how the mag looks, feed it a cell or change the mag into yet another one at the next multiple of 5 interval using another character.
You can't ever lose mag PBs, so don't worry about that.
