Ophthalamia: A friend introduced me after he heard only one of their songs (their cover of Deathcrush), and I was hooked. They sound a lot like Mayhem except with more Doomy elements and a better vocalist.
Disincarnate: I was always aware of this seminal death metal band because I'm a huge fan of James Murphy, but I didn't get a chance to hear them til recently, since none of my local shops ever have their album. I managed to find it in a HMV on a trip to Liverpool and I couldn't believe my ears. This band has the most precise and technical sound I've ever heard from any DM band. Yes, even more polished than Death's "Sound of Perseverance" which is amazing in itself. Overall, if you have even the slightest fleeting interest in DM, pick this up.
Ted Maul: I'm always looking for the newest thing in Death metal/grindcore, so initially when I heard about this band, I was rather skeptical. By a passing interest I happened to notice their album sitting on the shelf in my local Virgin, so I bought it for the hell of it. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much.
Oh how wrong I was. Considering how young they are, they're amazingly skilled, especially their vocalist and drummer (Memories of Decapitated's Winds of Creation spring to mind. R.I.P Vitek). Check them out.
