Well, all the phantasy star online games after ver.1 dreamcast came with 2 extra modes called battle mode and challenge mode.

Battle mode makes the game as a battle field and you can actually damage him in game, the guild counter presents you with rules for battle mode so you can face your oponent or oponents.

Challenge mode is doing a set of chalenges using teamwork, the faster you do the 9 challenges the better the prizes, the top prizes are s-rank weapons.
Cmode has specific drops and the game decides with what you equip and what level you are, if the enemys give 4x more exp then doing cmode becomes easy.
