FSOD i'd class as when the screen actually freezes and it makes that annoying tone constantly. Normally happenin when you change ships or enter lobbies, etc. Its at that time theres nothing you can do except reset!
What happens then is you lose everything you've done in that one time you played, and maybe lose all unequipped items on you aswell. A black screen id say was a general disc reading error.
What your saying here Kiweki i can't quite understand. Are you refering to the time when you first connect and the Hunters license screen has appeared, because i dont know anything about Episode II but theres no people at counters r there? In which case id say u were just generally changing ships at a Counter. If nothing happens then it's most likely a connection problem, or you're being disconnected by your ISP for no reason (Normally happens with Dial-Up if you've got it like me!). When you're being slowly disconnected, the game tries to load while you have no connection and the gamecube can't process everyone at the sametime! So it just stays at the same screen time and time again retrying to send data streams to load the next scenario up.
Basically what i'm saying is you should disconnect yourself because otherwise your in for a never ending wait! You can do this by removing and then re-inserting your phone cable from either the phone socket or the Gamecube modem. Then leave it for a while and eventually the screen saying 'You have been Disconnected - Game Over - Press Start to Continue'. Then you can either go online again and play or just do something else lol. DONT RESET YOUR GAMECUBE you will lose all your unequipped items. its worth it just waiting for a while. It could take a while.
Thats all the help i can give you really! Hope it helps.
