Tell me if ive got this wrong but i assume your modem connects to your pc via a USB slot. But you want to connect your gamecue direct to your modem by using some RJ45 cable. You should be able to do this although typically modems require standard 'straight' RJ45 and not 'crossover'. Crossover cable is mostly used for connecting up 2 pcs as a kind of mini-lan without the need for a hub or switch etc.
If youd rather not have to go out and buy some more cable you could setup internet connection sharing, whereby you connect your gamecube to your pcs LAN card and your modem to the USB slot as usual. If you have windowsXP setting up ICS is a piece of cake.
