I had high level Deband and level 16 or something Jellen at the time, plus a Secret Gear for the decent defense. It's perfectly possible for a melee force to handle Caves at a crap level, with crappy items (but I had to use a God/Arm to hit stuff, heh).
Gifoie hits enemies over a huge area, and items don't appear after a certain distance. If I didn't kill them close to me then I'd have to run around the entire room just to check for items
