Considering that at lv171 my RAcaseal's freeze traps have a blast radius of 5m, and my lv31 melee RAcast can freeze pretty much anything within 1.5m, I'd say there's a ratio involved somewhere.
Of course this is semi-off-topic as this is the Hunter forum, so why would I deliberately avoid making an on-topic post?
I'm not.
All traps seem to have a similar blast radius, as confirmed by my CMode HUcaseal and my Rangers. Therefore, once you've managed to get a rough idea of how far your Hunter's traps can reach, you'll be in a prime position to make good use of what I like to call the Invisible Wall Effect (don't ask). Simply grab your fattest, heaviest, strongest greatsword or partisan and stand close enough to attract the enemy's attention. Lay down some traps and wait. Soon anything walking towards you when the traps go off will get hit and probably act like they've just walked into a wall, giving you enough time to disembowel at your leisure.
Everything happens for a reason.
