The ps2 hype destroyed it realy. The DC was decent and could have been a competator in the console wars. Sega always release their consoles early to get a nice start 
If the dc had been marketed more and they pushed more games from the system it could have been great. The rumours of the ps2 made every1 wait for it e.g. the emotion chip that would learn how you play to make the games more suited to your style of play, i have never noticed a ps2 game doing anything like that
